This was the title of our Sunday School les- son from I Thessolonians. This last month has given extra opportunity for encouragement. I am reminded of the last verses of Acts4 which tells of a man named Joseph whom the apostles nicknamed Barnabas-- "One Who Encourages.” Barnabas sold a field he owned, brought the money and turned it over to the apostles. The money was distribut- ed to each one according to his need. This last month has brought mounting needs and a more mount- ing need for encouragement. Edith Morgan was encouraged to host another pinto bean supper at her home last Wednesday. We showed our thanks by donations to the Hugo relief fund. Hugo made a mess, but because of the mess, we're seeing a lot of the best of us come forth. The Baptist churches have brought encouragement to Bob Davis through their love offering gifts as have the Presbyterians to Kirk Douglas. Both these men have serious health problems. There is a new way to show your encouragement through the county agencies of Habitat for Humanity, Hospice volunteers, and the James Home, which is a shelter for abused children and sponsors. We are encouraged that Ethel Spangler, Sandra and Harold came back from Opryland U.S.A. They went on a Christian bus tour to Nashville. Lenora Morris came back from a wild life adventure in Morehead City with her daughter whom she met in Raleigh to the reasonable tame life of Grover and the Natatorium. The natatorium has been a little tamer than usual be- cause of some absences. This week should be more complete. Now Grover JACKIE ROUNTREE that the swim meet has been we ex- pect more tepid waters. Frances Greene missed her home pool splashes so much after she closed her home pool for the winter she has joined the other Grover splash- ers at the natatorium. Pat Hamrick surely encourages friendliness at the Grover P.O. Glenn reached in our P.O. box Wednesday to get our mail and Pat shook his hand from the other side. The post office reminds me a bit of the service the "ole time" telephone operators gave. They were good at passing on Grover News tidbits-- information and messages. We were encouraged to hear that Philip Francis has made it across country from the Virginia National Park to Yosemite National Park with Watson and Irene. Watson is a Siamese cat. Irene is a black cat of Siamese background that had just got there and along came the earth- quake. Philip called home to report Yosemite felt the quake rather vig- orously but he's not in the midst of damage. I called one sister-in-law who has lived in the Bay area most of her life. She said this was the worst by far for them--but, how en- couraged they are when they think of what might have been--what if the rip had been at the stadium-- what if all those people had been on the bridge and road. We encour- age us to give thanks for all the what ifs and might have beens. Crime Of The Week The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's assistance in solving the armed robbery which occurred at Jack's Quik Stop, located at the intersec- tion of Cherryville Road and Highway 74 Business, on Sunday, October 15. The suspect, identi- fied as being a white male, in his early 20's entered the store at ap- proximately 7:30 p.m. through the front door. After being in the store Sonoma for a brief period, the suspect stuck an unknown object in the owner's back, demanded money from the cash register, and then fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Anyone having any information concerning this or other crimes is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 481-TIPS (481- 8477). You could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Sanh is Saeed mM We encourage you to remember the opportunity to be the winner of the handmade quilt the FHA group has. I was on hand at First Baptist Church Sunday to give an encour- aging Presbyterian welcome to John, Roxanne, Thomas and Elizabeth Bridges of Grover to First Baptist and Spring Acres. We all were encouraged by the exciting and challenging musical presented by "Believers Because..." This is a youth choir group from Union and Gaffney. They encourage us to make every day count. Evelyn Willis says she is encour- aging her family to come visit so they'll be in the Grover News. Maria Harry's sister from Paris comes with encouragement this week to be with Maria, who is again in the hospital in Alabama. We all were encouraged by the good and long life of Charlie Tumer, and the good and long mar- riage of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Tumer. Holly and Paul were encouraged that Paul's mama, Bettie Ann Godfrey, his sister Mary Ann, and her husband, Gary, wanted to come back to Grover for the mother-in- law weekend. Margie and Ben Field might need an extra boost of encourage- ment. They are expecting three grandchildren for a visit this week. Lois and John Gold took their grandson to Chapel Hill to see Michael Jordan play ball. Jimmy Jolly says basketball practice is al- ready underway at the Grover gym. Our Sunday School book ex- plained the word encouragement like this--the root meaning of courage is "heart", while "en" is causative. When we encourage we are causing others to take heart. We are enspiriting--whether it be for family or foreigners. Be a Barnabas. METROLINA MATTRESS & WATERBED ig ILL 501 EAST FRANKLIN BLVD..
