the calendar * 7e 10A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, November 2, 1989 Giving Up The 60s, And The 80s, In Grover Another day and week have made their way into the time zone. The clocks fell back an hour but tumbled into November. Katy completed her first decade. I gave up the sixties and started on the seventies. After about 50 more shopping days until Christmas we'll all give up the 80s and start on the 90s. Meanwhile back to last week...the water was not too tipid by Tuesday--zesty, maybe, but not tipid. It takes 24 hours to heat the pool water one degree and this was not enough time from the weekend swim meet. We were expecting balmy waters by Thursday and then were ever so sorry that Will Hendricks was sick and mama Mary Ann needed to be home with him. When Lenora took Lois home Tuesday there was brother Dub Hicks waiting and grinning to greet us. Lois wanted to know why he was there on Tuesday. He said he couldn't wait until the weekend to come back to Grover. We celebrated Katy's first birth- day all weekend. She started the | celebration Thursday, her birthday, : by going to Discovery Place with some of her Grover School class- ' mates who joined with others from Bethware. Friday was a work day. Katy stayed home and helped get. ready for the slumber party to i fh come. Their cousin, Brian Smith, from the outskirts of Bessemer City spent the weekend with them. he and Joshua came down here to frolic with Erma Glynne, the dog. They all ended up in the creek--ac- cidentally, of course. Patsy and Katy went to Spartanburg to meet | Abby Ropp from Greenville who WN ese | hamburger supper followed by was coming for the weekend also. At 6 o'clock we had a 21 bun JACKIE ROUNTREE cake and ice cream and opening of presents. Afterwards the girls stayed home to get ready to slum- ber. The rest of us went to the ball- game to see the ball players' par- ents presented and honored--and to see another game won. We took Michael Jolly home and then looked in on the slumberers. That was the highest pitched squealing slumber I've heard in many years. Emily won't need a slumber party. She enjoyed Katy's enough for both. Patsy will need naps from now into the 90s. After a buffet breakfast Saturday morning some of us went over to Kildeer Farms for a hayride and pumpkin picking. Josh went with the Jolly family to Clemson for the ball game. The Godfreys went to Appalachian for the homecoming game there. I stopped by Kings Mountain Little Theatre for play practice. This is advance notice: "Anne of Green Gobles" will be presented November 30 and December 1, 2, and 3. No, I am not playing the part of Anne--Anne will an "e". Molly Blanton has the honor and gives the part much honor. As a part of the worship service we celebrated the baptism of Megan Neely, daughter of Mike and Kathy, granddaughter of Knox and Margaret, and sister of Abby Ropp. They were all there to affirm with us our commitment to help nurture her in the Christian way of life. Hutch's sermon was about a DAVID CHRONISTER Hospital Hires Pharmacist David Chronister has been hired at Kings Mountain Hospital as the new Director of of Pharmacy. Originally from Hickory, Chronister graduated from Hickory High School and earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1959. Before coming to Kings Mountain Hospital, he worked at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory. Chronister became interested in becoming a pharmacist at an early . age. He said, "I had an uncle who ' was a pharmacist and he influenced me. "I've been working in drug- stores and hospitals since 1953. That's over 35 years of experience in pharmacies." He has also been a long-time fan of Carolina sports. "I always planned to go to Carolina, which at the time had the only pharmacy school in North Carolina," said Chronister. "If they had not had the pharmacy school, I might have gone there anyway and studied something else." According to Chronister, Kings Mountain Hospital is an amiable place to work. "Everyone has been very friendly and helpful in show- ing me around the hospital. I feel that working at Kings Mountain Hospital will be a good opportunity for me. I plan to work on ways of saving money for the patients and the hospital." Outside of work, Chronister's hobbies include walking and he is an avid UNC sports fan, eagerly’ awaiting basketball season, but much interested in football, too. Chronister and his wife, Jane, have lived in Lincolnton for ten years and are members of Boger City Baptist Church. They have four children. Lisa is married and lives in Minnesota. Amy is a sophomore at Appalachian State University. David and Jana still live at home and attend high school and junior high school, respective- ly. GM.
