Plant
To Honor
Powell
A new Martin-Marietta plant in
Kings Mountain was the dream of
the late Jay Powell, who was plant
manager of Kings Mountain
Martin- Marietta when he died
May 10, 1987 after 39 years with
the company.
Friday, the 18 employees in the
new $1.5 million plant will mark
their first week of operation in the
new facility and will also formally
dedicate the plant to the memory of
their late "boss."
Powell's wife, Evelyn, and their
sons, Jay Powell Jr., and Steve
Powell will be present for the 11
a.m. ceremony where the family
will be given a plaque and a dedi-
cation plaque at the plant will be
unveiled in memory of Jay Powell
Sr.
Don Champion, plant manager,
and Darrell Carpenter, office man-
. ager, said the public is invited to
A «attend the ceremonies on the plant
grounds.
