She is survived by her husband, James Garfield Howard; one daughter, Martha Brown of Kings Mountain; one half-brother, Charles Kimble of Kings Mountain; and one grandchild. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Baptist Church by the Rev. Ansel Center, the Rev. Donald Denton and the Rev. Buddy Williams. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. MANUEL HOUSER BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Manuel "Slim" Houser, 62, of Route 3, died Saturday, November 4, 1989 at his home. A Cherokee County native, he was the son of Allie Wylie Houser and the late Clayborn Houser. He was employed by Ronnie Houser Paint Contractors in Charlotte. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Beulah Jones Houser of the home; three sons, Michael Houser of Chapel Hill, Mitchell Houser of Davidson and Clayborn "Sonny" Houser Jr. of Long Island, N.Y.; three daughters, Brenda Clark of Blacksburg, Kathy Houser of Charlotte and Kelly Seeley of Oxford; two stepsons, Donald Jones of Statesville and Kenneth Jones of Grover; four brothers, Johnny Houser of Charlotte, Jimmie Houser of Marathon, Fla., and Herbert and Willie Houser of Blacksburg; three sisters, Dot Hayes of Shelby, and Shirley Conoutus and Carrine Bivens of Blacksburg; a half broth- er, Marvin Houser of Durham; two half-sisters, Avolina Gregg of Tampa, Fla., and Bertie Richards of Chattanooga, Tn.; nine grandchil- dren; and five step-grandchildren. Houze From Page 1-A Hawkins said he was sorry to see friends lose because citizens would have been pleased with perfor- mance on the school board of any candidate running for the office on Tuesday. "Someone had to lose but any of these folks would have been good to work with." Mauney defeated challenger Tommy Bennett by 1,303 to 777 for the inside-city seat and Hawkins, with 966 votes, led the six-candidate field for two outside- city seats on the board. Voters rejected the reelection bid of Paul Hord Jr. who placed third with 723 votes followed by Larry McDaniel with 704, Wanza Davis with 524 and Calvin Miller with 322. Houze was second highest vote-getter among the outside-dis- trict candidates with 889. Bennett congratulated Mrs. Mauney, Houze and Hawkins and pledged his support in their upcom- ing efforts as school district trustees. A total of 2,489, or 29.2% of the registered vote of 8,519 school dis- trict voters, went to the polls. The three board members will be sworn-in on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the KM District School's Office on Parker Street. County's Veteran's Day Service Slated Cleveland County Veterans Council will sponsor the annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday on the north side of the old Courthouse. In event of rain, the service will be held inside the Cleveland Coynty Historical Museum on the Courtsquare. The public is invited. Rev.
