Page 16A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, November 16, 1989 Allison Durham Young Artist On The Way To Top Allison Durham is a young vo- calist with a fantastic voice who has emerged on the gospel music scene. Allison is from a small town in Kentucky, where she was exposed to gospel music by singing in the choir at church and at school. She participated in every talent show and every contest that she could. However, her big boost came when she requested to sing during inter- mission at a Squire Parsons con- cert. Squire was so impressed with what he heard that he requested that Allison put together a demo tape. The tape was sent to Maurice Templeton of Templeton Christian tours, and then on to Eldridge Fox, Allison then joined Homeland Recording Company and recently secured an exclusive booking agreement with Artist Direction Agency, of which Faye Shedd is president. Faye said, "Allison is a bright, fresh new talent which I be- lieve will bring a new dimension to both the southern gospel and inspi- rational markets." : Jerry Bedsole of WKMT in Kings Mountain says he has re- ceived Allison's new compact disc and has been playing some of the songs on his gospel music pro- gram. He says, "Allison is a great talent with quite a voice. I think she will be around in gospel music for a long time." A recent Alaskan tour found The Gaither Trio. Bill Gaither hap- pened to be in the audience at one of Allison's performances. After hearing her, he jumped from his |, seat in the first row to express his excitement over this rising young artist. He remarked, "We have here a bright, young talent whose gift of singing and communication are a wonderful addition to gospel mu- sic. This kind of warm and beauti- ful spirit is rare indeed." He then asked the audience to join him in a prayer of encouragement for Allison as she embarks on what is sure to be a most successful career. Several of gospel music's fa- vorite groups will be in the area soon. On Sat., Dec. 9, The Singing Cookes will be in concert at Gospel Music BY BETTY GOODSON Chandler will be at Independent Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas. A gospel singing will be held on Sat., Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the House of Prayer on Highway 18 north of Fallston. Singers will be harvest Time, formerly The True Believers of Kings Mountain, and 11-year- old Holly Robinson of Bessemer City. Realty 810 West Mountain 739-7942 or 739-6543 REALTOR see.
