Obituaries Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, November 30, 1989 SUDIE JENKINS Sudie Jenkins, 82, of 114 Fulton Drive, Kings Mountain, died November 25, 1989 at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of the late William Kertis and Fannie Laura Ann Ross White. Her husband was the late Andrew Jenkins. She was the owner of Sudie's Beauty Shop and a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Jenkins of Atlanta; two brothers, John White and James White, both of Kings Mountain; and two sisters, Viola White of Kings Mountain and Julia Babington of Yaupon Beach. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Kings Mountain Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Collins. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. BILLY BAGWELL Billy Martin Bagwell, 59, of 7250 Midpines, Kings Mountain, died November 23, 1989 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Willis and Myrtle Goins Bagwell. He was a retired textile worker and mem- ber of Eastside Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Robert Bagwell of Kings Mountain; one brother, Jerry D. Bagwell of Kings Mountain; one sister, Gloria Spicer of Kings Mouritain; and six grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Veterans Gardens at Mountain Rest Cemetery. TISHIE WHITWORTH Tishie Mae Whitworth, 67, of Route 3, Kings Mountain, died November 23, 1989 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Furman and Annie Roberts Wilson of Cherryville and was married to the late Grover Whitworth Sr. She was retired from Beam's Rest Home. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one son, Grover Whitworth Jr. of Kings Mountain; five daughters, Betty Bridges, Blondie = Chambers, Nishe Whitworth and Goldene Kee of Kings Mountain and Brenda McCain of Cherryville; four broth- ers, Furman Wilson Jr. of Cherryville; DeFay Wilson and Joe Wilson of Waco and J.C. Wilson of Cherryville; two sisters, Ruby Mackey of Kings Mountain and Fannie Dickerson of New York; 18 “grandchildren; and 16 great-grand- children, The funeral was conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. HL. Rhedrick. Burial was in the church cemetery. MARY STROUPE CHARLOTTE-Mary R. Ware Stroupe, 94, of 13001 Old Statesville Road, died Sunday, Nov, 26, in a Huntersville nursing home. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late W. A. and Mary C. Anthony Ware and the widow of L. L. Stroupe Sr. She is survived by three sons, James Stroupe of Mount Holly, Jerry Stroupe of Rock Hill,S.C. and Loy Stroupe Jr. of Charlotte; two sisters, Miss Ava Ware and Mrs. John L. McGill, both of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of New Covenant ARP Church and the Mixed Bible Class and Circle 3 Club. She was also a member of the 49-Plus Club. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home West Chapel by Rev. James McLurkin, interment following in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Covenant ARP Church Parking Lot Fund, 2541 Elkwood Circle, Charlotte 28205. Support Group Meets Monday The PAL group, a support group for women who have had mastec- tomies and for their families, will meet Monday night at 6 p.m. at Western Steer in Shelby. Twenty-three people attended the initial meeting sponsored by the Cleveland County Chapter American Cancer Society. "PAL" means Post-Mastectomy Attitudes on Living. Casual con- versation and supper features the monthly meetings. “This is the best I have felt since my surgery,” said one woman. Another said "Finally I can see a _ little light at the end of the tunnel." Another woman said "This is the answer to me." Organizers of the new program are Jackie Guy, June Houlditch and Carol Church. DAVID HAGER HICKORY - David Plonk Hager, 44, of 39th Avenue Northwest, died November 26, 1989 at Frye Regional Medical Center. A native of Iredell County, he was the son of the late’ Cloyd A. and Nan Plonk Ormand Hager. He was an engineer with Chair Craft Inc. of Hickory and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Becky Bost Hager; one son, John Hager of Hickory; three daughters, Beth Hager, Amy Hager and Dana Hager, all of Hickory; two broth- ers, Cloyd H. "Sonny" Hager of Hickory and Tom hager of Charlotte; and one sister, Mrs. Harriett H. Smith of Hickory. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church by Dr. John Christy. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. : Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund. HAZEL BROWN Hazel Ingram Brown, 83 of 429 North Tracy Street, Kings Mountain, died November 19, 1989 at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Gastonia. A native of York County, S.C., he was the son of the late William and Mary Frances Jackson Brown. He was retired from Campbell Soup Company and was a trustee of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Starling of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church by Dr. T.A. Powell. Burial was in St. James United Methodist Church cemetery in York County, S.C. RUTH LOGAN Ruth Roberts Logan, 92, of Route 4, Kings Mountain, died November 20, 1989 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A Cherokee County, S.C., na- tive, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ella Roberts. She was married to the late Esau Logan. She was a member of St. Peter Baptist Church in Grover. She is survived by four sons, William- Logan and James Logan of Baltimore and John Logan and Matthew Logan of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Virgie Smith and Pauline Lester of Baltimore; a sister, Alfreda Roberts of Philadelphia; 39 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church by the Rev. William Thompson. Burial was in the church cemetery. HATTIE LESLIE Funeral services for Hattie Luvenia Leslie, 96, who died Nov. 22, were held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Rev. Willie Maddox officiated and interment was in Memorial Park. Assisting in the service were Rev. K. B. Falls, Rev. James McCoy, Corrine Adams, Bessie Bell, and Mary Edwards. Special music was rendered by the choir and Hiawatha Edwards. Born March 31, 1893 in York, South Carolina, she was daughter of the late Issacc and Sarah Boyce Leslie. She was a Sunday School teacher at Harris Chapel Methodist Church in York, S. C. and a retired school teacher. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. Surviving are her daughter, Ivory Mae Leslie of the home; grandson, Donald Eugene Leslie of Gastonia; and three great-grand- children. SUDIE S. GAMBLE MONROE-Funeral services for Mrs. Sudie Smith Gamble, 85, of ‘Waxhaw, who died Tuesday in Union Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Gordon Funeral Chapel by Rev. Larry Lamberth, interment follow- ing in Waxhaw Cemetery. A native of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Gamble was born Feb. 6, 1904 to the late John North and Margaret Huffstickler Gamble. She was widow of Clyde D. Gamble who died in 1975. She was a homemaker, member of Waxhaw United Methodist Church and ac- tive in United Methodist Women, the Eastern Star and Waxhaw Woman's Club.
