MELVIN BAGWELL HAMPTON,VA.-Melvin Lewis Bagwell Sr., 60, died Jan. 15, 1990 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. A native of Lancaster, S. C., he was retired from B&W Tree Service. He was a U. S. Navy vet- eran of the Korean War and had been a resident of Hampton since 1952. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Bagwell of the home; three daughters, Nettie Ann Budds and Hilda Jane Schlichenmayer, both of Hampton, Goldie Genevia Barefoot of North Fort Myers, Fla. and Libby Dawson of Ark, Va.; three sons, Melvin Lee Bagwell Jr., Ronnie Eugene Bullock and William Robert Bullock, all of Hampton; one sister, Eulamae Metcalf of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Carl L. Bagwell and Charles L. Bagwell, both of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hampton by the Rev. Samuel E. Hyde. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Gardens. ALBERT SMITH SR. GASTONIA-Albert Ervin Smith, Sr., 69 of Route 1 Box 469, Humphries Boulevard, died January 16 at home. A Kings Mountain native, he was son of the late Samuel Ervin and Ida Jane Leggins Smith. He was a retired employee of Pharr Yams of McAdenville. Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Benton Smith of the home; daugh- ters, Mrs. Shirley Oliver of Dallas, Mrs. Louise Ballard of Gastonia; son, .Albert--E.--Smith- Jr. of _ Chesapeake Bay, Va.; stepsons, Lawrence Humphries Jr., Kenneth Humphries, James G. Roberts, all of Gastonia; stepdaughters, Mrs. Linda Lane, Mrs. Gail Blanton, Miss Connie Humphries, Mrs. Jean Jenkins, Mrs. Glenda Carpenter, Charlene Roberts, Mrs. Nora Stephens , all of Gastonia, and Mrs. Sherry Bell of Stanley; sis- ters, Mrs. Nola Morrow and Mrs. Linnie Mae Ballard, both of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Virginia Ford of Cramerton and Mrs. Evelyn Bell of Fallston; eight grandchildren and | five great-grandchildren. mme—eral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home by Rev. James Lowery, burial following in Westview Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home. GLADYS MURRIEL Gladys L. Murriel, 56, of Rochester, New York, died Jan. 12 in Alden New York. Surviving are her mother, Lila Mae Gash, of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Macie Lee Gash, of Buffalo, New York, Kathleen R. Gash and Doris J. Gash, both of Kings Mountain; one brother, James W. Gash of Kings Mountain. Funeral services will be con- ducted by Rev. Eddie Ponder at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday night and at other times at 1505 Northwoods Drive in Kings Mountain. J. W. Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, January 18, 1990 Obituaries ETTA MAE CONNOR Etta Mae Connor, 98, of 300 York Road, Kings Mountain, died January 15, 1990 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Spartanburg, S.C., she was the daughter of the late James and Lila Mcharaffe Owens and wife of the late Roy Connor. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church. Burial was in the Patterson Grove Baptist Church cemetery. MRS. JULIAN COOK CHARLOTTE-Mrs. Mabel Mauney Cook, 59, of Charlotte, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin McIntyre of Kings Mountain, died suddenly Thursday evening at Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday at Hankins-Whittington- Dearborn Chapel and interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Cook was an accountant (The tiny, for Ivey's and wife of Julian Cook who survives. She was a native of Crouse. Also surviving are two children and her parents, W. Sidney and Bessie Murphy Mauney of Crouse. BILLY GENE WRAY LENOIR - Billy Gene Wray, 49, of 322 Nuway Circle, died January 14, 1990 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of William Clyde Wray of Bessemer City and the late Mary Geneva Ramsey Wray. In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Scott Wray of Gastonia and Samuel Wray of Spindale; one daughter, Deddie Wray of Dallas; three brothers, Donnic Wray of Kings Mountain and Bobby Wray and David Wray, both of Bessemer City; one sister, Betty Sipes of Lake Wylie, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
