; hi Ih 1 Vocational Ed Week Underway Vocational educators and stu- dents in Kings Mountain as well as across North Carolina and the na- tion are celebrating Vocational Education Week this week. The theme, "Vocational Education: It Works," provides a focus for the almost 14 million Americans enrolled in public sec- ondary and post-secondary voca- tional education programs nation- wide. The 1361 students enrolled in vocational education in Kings Mountain will be a part of this cel- ebration. The celebration will feature stu- dent exhibits and displays at the Cleveland Mall February 14,15, and 16. Each of the Vocational Youth Organizations will honor the teachers in their schools at break- fast and drop-ins. Over thirty rep- resentatives from business and in- dustry will be guest speakers in vocational classes. Place mats fea- turing vocational students in action will be used by local restaurants during the week. Bulletin boards will be displayed by vocational stu- dents and staff during the week long celebration. The Vocational Advisory Council met February 14 in the Commercial Foods Lab to celebrate Vocational Week. John Heath Listed Who's Who Student John Heath, KMSHS senior and son of Rev. and Mrs. John Heath of Kings Mountain, is listed in the 23rd annual edition of "Who's Who Among American High School Students." "Who's Who" is the largest stu- dent recognition publication in the nation and has bee published annu- ally since 1967. The reference and recognition values of the book have been acknowledged in the fa- vorable review by the prestigious American Library Association, the only student recognition program to be so noted. Exploration Club Officers Installed Officers of the Kings Mountain Career Exploration Club were in- stalled at a candle lighting ceremo- ny in the cafeteria of Kings Mountain Junior High School. The Career Exploration Club of N.C. is for all students enrolled in a career exploration class. The 38 dues paying members will be busy this month preparing for District VI competition to be held March 6 at Central Piedmont Community College. Carolyn McWhirter spoke at the installation ceremony on the ad- vantages of vocational education. She told the students to "be proud to be enrolled in a vocational class." Advisors at Kings Mountain Junior High are Ann Bennett, Charles Helms, Margaret Rhodes and Glista Young. ‘ Community Concerts Drive Is Underway Gastonia Community Concerts is kicking off its 1990-91 member- ship drive this week and local peo- ple are invited to join through Feb. 24. Local chairpersons are Lynne Mauney and Fran Sincox of Kings Mountain. , "Enjoy great artists and attrac- tions from throughout the world and share the special thrill of live entertainment with family and friends rights here in our communi- ty," said Sincox. Local concert performances are held at 8 p.m. in Hunter Huss Auditorium. Individual memberships are $25 for adults and $10 for students. Family memberships, including two adults and two or more ‘stu- dents, are $60 each. Benefactor, sponsor, donor and patron member- ships are also available. The 1900-91 concert season will feature the Slovak Chamber Todd Reynolds On Dean's List Richard Todd Reynolds of King Mountain made the Dean's List for the fall semester at Central Wesleyan College in Central, South Carolina. In order to be named to the Dean's List a student must carry an academic class load of at least 12 hours and maintain a 3.5 cumula- tive grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
