Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, April 12, 1990 Obituaries FLOYD A. PAINTER Floyd Albert Painter, 68, of 7240 Midpines, Kings Mountain, died April 7, 1990 at the V.A. Hospital in Asheville. A Gaston County native, he was the son of the late Robert and Florence Whisnant Painter and husband of the late Lucille Furr Painter. He was a retired textile employee and member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by three sons, Dean Painter of Grover and Danny Painter and Donald Painter, both of Gaffney, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Sessoms of Grover and Mrs. Eugonda Mobley of Cherryville; and nine grandchil- dren. Graveside services were con- ducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Rest Cemetery. Rev. Marvin Lee officiated. MILLARD JUNE ALLEN Funeral services for Millard June Allen, 69, of 310 N. Dilling Street, who died April 10 at 7:15 p. m. at Kings Mountain Hospital, will be con- diuic ted Friday at 3 p.m. at Baptist Church of which he was a mem- ber. Rev. James Hamrick and Rev. Marcus Martin will officiate and interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Allen was a native of Cleveland County, son of the late Arthur and Rose Dobbins Allen. He was mar- ried to Louise Martin Allen, who survives. He was a retired textile employee. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son, Walter Dover of Kings Mountain; stepsons, James Dover of Shelby, Thomas Dover and Alfred Dover, both of Kings Mountain; daughter, Annette Cavender of Bessemer City; step- daughter, Betty Allen of Kings Mountain; brothers, A. D. Allen of Spartanburg, S.C., Donald Allen, of Kings Mountain; stepbrother, Robert Allen of Kings Mountain; sisters, Virginia Smith, Margaret Patterson, Juan Allen, all of Kings Mountain; Elizabeth Smith of Spartanburg, S. C., and Barbara Stacy of Augusta, Ga., and stepsis- ter, Pauline Bible of Cowpens, S.C.; three grandchildren; 13 step- grandchildren; two great-grand- children; 11 step great-grandchil- dren. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. JOE L. RHYNE CHARLOTTE - Joe Linwood Rhyne, 67, of 12630 Hillstone Court, died April 7, 1990 at Presbyterian Hospital. A native of Vale, he was retired from Bruce Johnson Trucking Company, which he served nine years as Parts and Service Manager. He was also retired from Central Motor Lines with 19 years of service. He was a 1940 graduate of Union High School in Vale. He was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church, where he was active in the United Methodist Men and the Charles P. Bowles Sunday School Class. He was a member and past- member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #530, A.F.&A.M., Oasis Temple of the Shrine, Scottish Rite Bodie, Past Patron of Bethlehem Chapter 257 O.E.S., Past Royal Patron of Carolina Court #1 Order of the Amarath, Past Captain of the Shrine Wagoneers and American Legion Post of Cherryville, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Keren Mosteller Rhyne of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Whitener of Charlotte; one brother, Lewis Rhyne of Vale; and four grandsons. The funeral was conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Dilworth United Methodist Church. Masonic graveside services were at Sharon Memorial Park. PRESTON GARDNER CLOVER, S. C. - PFC Preston Scott Gardner, 20, of 655 Thomas Road, died April 4, 1990 in an ac- cident in Bad Kissinger, Germany. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of Mrs. Carolyn Jonas Gardner of Clover and the late James Preston Gardner. He was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Oakdale Presbyterian Church in Clover. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his maternal grandpar- cents, Mr. and Mrs. James Jonas of Kings Mountain; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ada D. Gardner of Clover; one brother, James Trent Gardner of Clover; and one sister, Ms. Virginia Ann Gardner of Clover. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain by Rev. Bob Little, Rev. Charles Von Rosenberg and Rev. Marvin Iseman. Burial with full military honors was at Mountain Rest Cemetery. TED FARRIS GROVER - Teddy Delnor Farris, 53, of Hardin Circle, died April 5, 1990 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A Kings Mountain native, he was the son of the late Walter Calvin and Essie Rayfield Farris and was employed by C&C Scrap Metal in Kings Mountain. He was a member of Dixon Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Artella Moore Farris of the home; a son, James Clark Farris of Shelby; three daughters, Rhonda Roseboro of Shelby, Teddie Norman of Kings Mountain and Cindy Farris of the home; two brothers, Wray Farris and Paul Farris of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Gertrude Carroll of Sumter, S.C., Annie Farris of Gaffney, S.C., and Gail Anderson of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren. The funeral was’ conducted Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. James Sanders. Burial was in Clingman Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg, S.C. MARVIN HAMRICK SR. FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Marvin A. Hamrick, Sr., 81, for- merly of Grover, died April 1, 1990 at Mary Washington Hospital. A native of Cowpens, S.C., he was son of the late Louis C. and Maude Cleone Hambright Hamrick and husband of the late Anne Hamrick. He was a direct descen- dant of Col. Frederick Hambright who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. He was a retired ma- chine operator and worked part- time for the Fredericksburg Auto- Auction, He is survived by four sons, Clyde S. Hamrick and Marvin Hamrick Jr. of Fredericksburg, Bruce F. Hamrick of Wilmington and Wayne E. Hamrick of Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Thursday at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home by the Rev. John Gordon. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Hope Lodge, 636 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, Md., 21201. CALVIN WALLACE Jacob Calvin Wallace, 102, died Tuesday morning at 3117 ost Boulevard in Charlotte. E.C. ADERHOLDT Graveside service for Ernest Crouse Aderholdt, 81, of 637 St. Lucie Crescent, Stuart, Florida, who died April 10, will be con- ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery. Rev. Harward Smith will offici- ate. A native of Kings Mountain, he was a retired federal employee. He was son of the the late Junius Ernest and Mamie Crouse Aderholdt and was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Eargle Aderholdt; one son, Roderick Aderholdt of Jensen Beach, Fla.; one sister, Pearl ‘Adams of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Jim Anderson To Give Program At KM Library Jim Anderson, historian at Kings Mountain National Military Park, was guest speaker at Wednesday's meeting of Colonel Frederick Hambright Chapter DAR at Mauney Memorial . Library. In his presentation on the flag, he talked about Betsy Ross, who designed the first flag of the United States of America, a flag which in- spired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star Spangled Banner." Introducing the program, Vera Hardin noted that she can trace kinsmanship to Miss Ross, who was in the tailoring business. Mrs. Eugene Roberts, Regent, reminded members that June 14 is Flag Day and asked them to fly flags at their homes and encourage businesses to fly the flag. Mrs. Elizabeth Lynch was host- ess and served refreshments carry- ing out the Easter motif.
