KM Little Theatre To Present 'Miracle Worker’ May 3-6 Kings Mountain Little Theatre has entered the home stretch of re- hearsals for the upcoming produc- tion of William Gibson's "The Miracle Worker" which will be presented May 3-6 at Park Grace Auditorium. "This is one of the most exciting and absorbingly interesting plays that I have ever attempted to direct. Our high hopes are that this play will maintain the unbroken string of successes it has enjoyed every- where it has played," said Jane Copenhaver. The play recounts the courage and determination of a teacher to reach a student whom others have been unable to touch. "The members of Helen Keller's family have been understandingly portrayed by Gibson. He seems to say that the families of handi- capped people have a special re- sponsibility and challenge, sensi- tive to family members’ frustrations; the father, Captain Keller, who can afford to find med- ical help, only to have to face the fact that medicine cannot help in in HURRY!!! [% this instance; the young second wife, whose first child this is and she is incapable of helping her; the older brother who must deal with the presence of a young stepmother and how this child is little more than an animal. None of the family received the world-wide acclaim and fame that Helen Keller achieved, which she richly de- served. We are reminded in watch- ing this presentation of the quiet support that comes to many of from those people who are support- ive and loving in the face of great obstacles," said Copenhaver. "Had her mother, played by Laura Beth Moss, not been determined to re- claim her daughter's life, had her father, played by David Jones, not been willing to hire the tutor, had the older brother, played by Jeff Grigg, not been courageous enough to defy his father when it was nec- essary, this story of triumph over tragedy would never have taken place,” Copenhaver said.
