Wrestling, Other Events Set At KM Center The Kings Mountain Recreation Department has announced the fol- lowing programs. For more infor- mation, call 739-9631 or 734-0449. *The weight room is available to the public for a $10 monthly fee. You must call the Recreation Department for reservations. *Kung Fu classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 7- 8:30 p.m. The fee is $20 per person or $40 per family. *The Table Tennis Club meets on Monday nights from 7-9 p.m. There is no fee but you must fur- nish your own paddle. *Scuba classes begin on Thursday, April 19. The depart- ment and Steve Hoyle will begin a six-week course with class work at the center from 7-9 p.m. and the water portion at Neisler Natatorium on Saturday mornings. Both courses are offered by certi- fied teachers. *Professional wrestling will be held April 21 at the Community Center. Matches include Bad Boys against New Wave; C.C. Rider against Buford T. Darling; Tommy Landell (the Undertaker) against Lance Taylor (the Candy Man); Buddy Landell (Nature Boy) against Brodie Chase, and others. Tickets are $6. Children under six will be admitted free. *A Red Cross lifeguard training course will begin Monday, May 7 at Neisler Natatorium. This is the new certification for persons inter- ested in pool and/or water front lifeguard positions and requires ap- proximately 33 contact hours to complete. Gordon Edwards, KMHS swim coach, will conduct Baseball, Softball The Dixie Youth Minor League baseball season will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Kings Mountain Recreation Department. Two games are on tap, with the Wildcats meeting Optimist at 10 a.m. and B&M Muffler facing First Carolina at 11:30. ; Next Tuesday night, beginning at 6 p.m., the Cardinals will face the Optimist, followed by the Wildcats against B&M Muffler. Saturday games will be played at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and week night games will be at 6 and 7:30. THE SCHEDULE April 21 - Optimist vs. Wildcats; B&M vs. First Carolina. Friday, April 27 City Wide Clean Up Day Saturday, April 28 ---- City Wide Recycling Day Call the Kings Mountain Parks and Reereation Department For Details at the program which continues on May 8-11, May 14-16, May 18, and May 21-23 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. To qualify for the program the following prerequisites are neces- sary: Fifteen years of age on or be- fore the beginning of the course; swim 500 yards continuously using cach of the following strokes for at least 50 yards: crawl, breaststroke, clementary backstroke and side- stroke; surface dive to a minimum depth of nine feet and bring a 10- pound diving brick to the surface; surface dive to a minimum depth of five feet and swim underwater a minimum of 15 yards; tread water for one minute. Certification requires that partic- ipants pass the written test with 80 percent minimum Score, Success- fully complete final skills test, and successfully complete or show documentation of the new American Red Cross Standard First Aid Course (First Aid/CPR combi- nation). The standard First Aid Course, which is not a part of the Lifeguard training, will also be sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday, May 12, at the Community Center beginning at 9 a.m. Both the First Aid and Lifeguard courses will be conduct- ed on a fee basis, *There is currently a need for qualified, responsible individuals for a variety of summer jobs in the Kings Mountain area.
