Cablelink Inc. officials and em-
ployees celebrated the opening of a

becue Tuesday.

bon, assisted by General Manager
Andrew Janelle and President
Larry Burke of the plant's parent
company, Robinson Nugent. Inc.
Burke said the growing compa-
ny broke ground for the expansion,

The Cleveland Avenue widening
project is expected to be completed
in about two weeks, weather per-
mitting.
City Engineer Tom Howard said
the $200,000 improvements project
is being constructed by about five
crews from the city and state with
minimal cost to the city. It is the
state's biggest road project in the
city this year and one of Kings
Mountain's priority projects this
spring.
which doubles its present size,

Huffman was contractor.

of BB&T, and Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Mauney, who lease the
property to Cablelink.
"This is a great day for
Cablelink," said Burke, who said
the Kings Mountain plant is the
fastest growing plant in the corpo-
ration.
Cablelink, which opened in
Kings Mountain in November
1982 and shipped its first order of
computer cables and harnesses in
June 1983, employs 140 people.
Widening Underway
Howard said that widening of
King Street for a right turn lane on
161 and widening to three lanes
from Cleveland Avenue to the
Community Center will, not only
add a turn lane, but improve safety
in that area dramatically. Among
other improvements, the state has
put in five catch basins and, in the
process, workmen have crossed all
city water, sewer and gas lines and
the state highway in a project that
is 60% complete. State workers
will also install curb, gutter and
paving. City electrical workers
have been on the scene for a major
part of the project. Citizens will be
pleased with the drainage improve-
ments, said Howard, who com-
mended residents along the route
for their cooperation in allowing
state easements. "We think the resi-
dents of this section of town will
be pleased with the entire project,
once completed, " said Howard.
