¥ Page 10A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, May 17, 1990 Women To Have Card Benefit Kings Mountain Woman's Club members will play cards for benefit of club projects Thursday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. Twenty-five tables will be set up in the club dining room. Players are invited to make up their own tables and bring cards of their choice. Tallies will be provided and the $3 donation will include re- freshments and door prizes. "The party is open to the public and we'd like for men and women who enjoy bridge, rook, canasta to join us in this fun evening,” said Hilda Dixon, committee of the ar- rangements committee. Dixon said that Woman's Club members will furnish the dessert and are also asked to sell tickets, also available at the door. Jerri Werner and Myrtle Christenson are co-chair- men of ticket sales. Inside Neisler Natatorium, Edwards will give free tests for body fat percentage and tours of the facility will be offered. Nurses with the Cleveland County Health Department will offer free health screenings at booths set up outside the stadium where visitors are also asked to sign a registration sheet. Wellness booths will be manned by representatives of Clevemont Mills, Youth Assistance Program, KM Hospital, CODAP, Red Cross, Dr. Miller, Girl Scouts, Cleveland County Home Extension Department, Dr. Grady Howard, KM Senior Center, DARE, KM Community Center, Cleveland County Mental Health Department, Roberts Children Note Birthday Benji and Clay Roberts, sons of Benny and Diane Roberts of Kings Mountain, celebrated their birth- days in April. Benji, who was 13 on April 10, celebrated his birthday with friends at a skating party. Clay's birthday was April 30th and he celebrated his second birth- day at a party at McDonald's. Benji and Clay are grandchil- dren of Mrs. Willie May Melton of Gastonia and the late Billy E. Melton and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Roberts of Kings Mountain. Chanthapheng Receives Degree Saengsongfa Chanthapheng, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Manh Chanthapheng of Kings Mountain, received her Associate in Science degree from Lees-McRae College May 12. ; Twenty-one students were among the first to graduate from Lees-McRae with a Bachelor's de- gree. The small, private Presbyterian-affiliated college un- derwent a successful transition from junior college status to be- come a four-year school this year. Fifty-nine students received their Associate degrees as part of the last junior college graduating class. Steele Barber, son of Steve and Cindy Barber of Newton, celebrat- ed his fourth birthday May 9. A birthday party was held at the home of his grandparents in Kings Mountain and a Ninja Turtle cake was cut and served with refresh- ments. Steele is grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Barber and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Smith, all of Kings Mountain. He is great-grandson of Mrs. Mabel Eskew. Other members of the Barber family are his older brother, Michael, and his younger sister, Tara. Kings Mountain Rescue per- sonnel will also be on hand and Dale Putnam, mascot for The Mountaineers, will be present . In event of rain, the program will be moved inside high school facilities, either in the gymnasium or Barnes Auditorium. Propst said there will be plenty of parking in high school facilities for the event. The tennis courts, horseshoe pit, soccer exhibition and PE Club exhibitors will be lo- cated in the vicinity of the stadium. Free Health Screen Set For Seniors Free health screening for senior citizens will be held Monday from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church fellow- ship building. Screenings will be be given in height and weight, glaucoma, blood pressure, anemia, urinalysis, and hearing. Tetanus vaccines will also be available as well as blood tests and diabetes tests. The only charge is for blood tests. Pap smear appointments will also be avail- able. Senior citizens needing ‘trans- portation should call the Kings Mountain Aging Department, 734- 0447. L.A Concert Sunday At KM Church Piedmont Mastersingers, direct- ed by Roger Miller, will present a concert Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. The singers are Linda Dixon, Nova Lewis, Sharon McPhail, Virginia Morrow, Shauna Turner, Gay Jolley, Pat Paysour, Michele Placie, Jane Young, Roger Myers, Robert Pendley, Dan Pope, Hugh Giles, Craig McCoy, Harry Petrey and Lee Young. Carol Jean Winecoff will be ac- companist for the program which will include patriotic, classical, popular songs and songs from the musical stage. The public is invited.
