Old Timey Day Sunday at Second Baptist Church was reminiscent of 1915 when wor- shipers dressed in long dresses and bonnets - and kids jumped rope and preachers and their congregation rode to church in horse-drawn wagons. Rev. Eugene Land dressed up in black tux and tails but, alas, the horse and carriage went to the wrong church and Land had to depend on his automobile to get him to church on time. Paul and Wesley Kiser, who have been married over 50 years, won the prize for best dressed couple and Rev. Land took honors for the best dressed preacher. Sue Henderson's home-baked apple pie took the blue ribbon for her in the baking de- partment and Rusty McAbee, Marlisha Chaney and Oscar Ortega won the pie-eating contest. Kenny McAbee dipped lemonade from a tub and members picnicked on the grounds and youth and adults enjoyed horseshoes, jump rope, jump plank, sack races and other activities. More than 150 people participated in the day's events which began with Sunday School and morning worship services. Sunshine Choir of senior citizens and mem- bers of the Walt Ollis family presented spe- cial music. The Ollis family includes Diana Ollis, Ruth Wellman, Walt Ollis, Susan Todd and Janie Ollis. Serving as judges for the events were Wesley Kiser, Ted Ford and Ken Ward. Sunday's Old Timey Day kicked off church activities celebrating the diamond anniver- sary year of Second Baptist Church, orga- nized in 1915.
