Commercial,
Pall Reach
Agreement
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO-
Commercial Intertech Corp. an-
nounced its wholly-owned affiliate
Cuno, Inc. had reached a settle-
ment with the Pall Corp. of Glen
Cove, New York, in its claim that
Pall had infringed on certain nylon
membrane patents.
Pall agreed to pay Cuno $12
million for a paid-up license with
respect to key patents in the pro-
duction of nylon membrane. The
parties also agreed to exchange
worldwide releases for all prior ac-
tivities in connection with nylon
membrane products. Litigation
pending in the U. K., France and
Germany by each party will be ter-
minated.
Cuno sued Pall Corp. for in-
fringement of their charged nylon
membrane patents in September
1986. The suit was broadened in
1987 to include Cuno's basic nylon
membrane patent. The trial began
April 9, 1990 and the $12 million
settlement was reached out of court
during the trial.
Paul Powers, chairman of
Commercial Intertech said," We ini-
tiated the suit to protect what we
believe are excellent products with
great growth potential. It is our
corporate policy to vigorously de-
fend our patents. While the issues
were complex, we believe a fair so-
lution was achieved and that Cuno
will continue its exciting progress
in the field of high tech filtration."
Gaston Memorial
Is Accredited
Gaston Memorial Hospital has
been awarded a two-year accredita-
tion by the Commission on
Laboratory Accreditation of the
College of American Pathologists
(CAP) based on the results of an
on-site inspection.
The CAP Laboratory
Accreditation Program is recog-
nized by the federal government as
being equal to or more stringent
than the government's own inspec-
tion program.
Inspectors examine the records
and quality control of the laborato-
ry or the preceding two years. To
assess how well the laboratory
meets patient needs, the inspection
includes laboratory facilities,
equipment, and safety procedures,
as well as the education and quali-
fications of the total staff.
Gaston Memorial Hospital labo-
ratory is one of more than 4,000
CAP-accredited laboratories na-
tionwide.
