Oak Grove Preschoolers Honored Twenty-six Oak Grove Pre- Schoolers were honored at a gradua- tion program recently and presented a program, "Birthday Party In London Town" to the delight of the large crowd present. Rev. Ron Caulder, assisted by Augusta Webster, presented diplomas to "graduates." Members of the 2-year-old class are: Katie Bell, Ethan Blanton, Sara Caulder, Jesika Gardner, Tyler Harris, Dustin Mullis, Lindsay Newton, Sadler Stowe, and Justin Weaver. Members of the 3-year-old class are: Stefanie Anderson, Corey Gist, Dale Henson and Stevie Queen. Members of the 4 and 5-year-old class are: Chris Camp, Ross Ellis, Melissa Gray, Gaston Grigg, Jeffrey Harris, Jonathan Oates, Damon Oliver, Pam Randall, Jennifer Regan, Kelly Richardson, Zach Sladeck, Josh Williams and Drew Yarbrough. Members of the Pre-School staff are Augusta Webster, director and teacher of the 2-year-old class; Diane Randall, assistant director and teacher of the 4- year-old class; Tracy Turner, teacher of the 3-year-old class; Traci Lewis, di- rector of afternoon care; Mrs. Vernie Philbeck, cook; and Jada Hardin, sec- retary. Senter received the top math and science awards and Dixon won the language and social studies awards for high achievement. Senter And Dixon Presented Outstanding Student Awards Ninth graders Becky Senter and Melanie Dixon won outstanding achievement awards and numerous other students won honors during the recent Awards Day at Kings Mountain Junior High School. In addition, over 10 percent of the student body won passes to Carowinds after posting perfect attendance records for the year. A total of 411 students in grades K-12 in Kings Mountain Schools were honored for perfect at- tendance with Carowinds tickets worth $7,788.45. Leading the awards lists were stu- dents receiving certificates for academ- ic fitness, including Ginger Baity, Caine Barber, Michael Black, Chris Blanton, Christi Bridges, Doug Bridges, Sheila Bryson, Kenneth Bunch, Breia Davis, Shannon Davis, Melanie Dixon, Paula Eckard, Stephen Fisher, Donna Goforth, Thomas Goforth, Melissa Griffin, Brad Grigg, Thomas Hagans, Angela Hardin, Jackie Harmon, Alicia Harris, William Harrison, Brent Hawkins, Edie Hicks, Chad Huntsinger, James Huskey, Jill Jimison, Stephanie Jones, Jennifer Krogueski, Monica McBee, Christy McCleary, Victoria Meiswinkel, Tosheen Peters, Jason Powell, Rebecca Senter, Cari Sipe, Robert Suber, Todd Ware, Leshunda Wray and Kelly Yarbrough. Students performing talent numbers during the awards ceremony were Jada Brown, District talent show winner; Antwaine Brown, Justin Jones, Maurice Young, Calvin Logan, Tony Goins, Christy Robbs, Laura Bell, Ginger Blalock, and Melissa Griffin. The closing song, "Wind Beneath My Wings was sung by Melissa Griffin. A memorial plaqaue was presented in memory of Scott Goforth. Faculty tal- ent presentations were by "The Patriot Girls." Sheila Bryson was honored as "Young Citizen" and Jada BiddIx won the DAR Good Citizen award. Dr. Eric Faust accepted the Beta Club gift which presented money to the crisis minisry in the community. Robbie Ruff presented the class gift to the school, a set of flags and a podi- um which will be used at the new Middle School next year. KMCC Queen Is Esther Bell,93 Ester Bell, 93, was crowned Miss Kings Mountain Convalescent Center 1990 at the recent beauty pageant held by KM- CC residents. A capacity crowd filled the din- ing area of the facility to watch Mrs. Bell give her rendition of The Charleston. She is the mother of James and Charlie Bell. Runnerup Queen was Flora Green, 100, who recited the po- em,"Little Orphan Annie." Several events are planned at KM Convalescent Center this month. A Western Jamboree will be held on Tuesday, June 19 begin- ning with supper at 6 p.m. Hotdog plates are $2. A Bluegrass band and cloggers from Dallas will pre- sent entertainment. A Manless wedding will be held June 29 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow the "wedding" and the pub- lic is invited to attend. Scholarship To Mcintyre Betsy McIntyre, recent graduate of Kings Mountain Senior HIgh School, is recipient of a Lutz Foundation Scholarship. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. McIntyre. The scholarship is worth $2,000, payable $500 each year. Ten students were nominated for the award from KMSHS. Scholarships also went to out- standing seniors from Shelby City, Cleveland, Polk and Rutherford County schools. Hoyles Announce Baby Son's Arrival Freddie and Ann Hoyle of Kings Mountain announce the arrival of their son, Stephen Buck, Tuesday, June 12. He weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces. Scisms Announce Baby Daughter Philip and Paula Scism of Kings Mountain announce the birth of their daughter, Carmen Susanne, Tuesday, June 12. She weighed 9 pounds, 7 ounces. Grandparents are Charles and Nancy Scism and Travis and Kay Weldon. McDaniels Announce Son's Arrival Jerry and Julie McDaniel of Kings Mountain announce the birth of their son, Alex Steven, Thursday, June 7. Local debutantes making their debuts were Ashley Champion, LeeAnn Masters, Betsy Mcintyre, Amanda McKee, Julie McRae and Amy Turner. Samuel B. Strain Jr. was com- mentator and Ken Kennedy Band provided music during the presen- tation. After the ball, a reception was held at Shelby High School where the Jimmy Duckworth Trio provid- ed entertainment. A pink and white tent with chandelier lighting, ferns, palm trees and holly trees with white lights, and pink and white flowers enhanced the setting.
