Celebrates Birthday
Christy Whetstine celebrated her
first birthday June 15. She had a
Strawberry Shortcake doll party
with family and friends.
Christy is the daughter of Wanda
and Darrell Whetstine and the sis-
ter of Brian Whetstine.
Grandparents are Philip and Pat
Witherspoon and Joyce and Ed
Babb, all of Kings Mountain.
Jenkins Awarded
Teaching Fellow
Katherine Lynn Jenkins, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis A.
Jenkins of 1101 W. Gold Street,
has been awarded the prestigious
North Carolina Teaching Fellows
Scholarship. She is a June graduate
of Kings Mountain Senior High
School and will enter Meredith
College in August as a freshman.

ed to host the
program. The Fellows Program, es-
tablished by the N. C. General
Assembly, is designed to encour-
age talented high school students to
enter a teaching career. Each win-
ner of the award receives $5,000
from the state per year for each of
her four years in college, provided
she meets the program require-
ments. In addition, each recipient
enrolling at Meredith will also re-
ceived grants coordinated by the
college to assure full coverage of
her tuition, room and board.
McKee Graduates

cises for the high school division
of Saint Mary's College in Raleigh,
Amanda Lee McKee was graduat-

She is the daughter of Dr. and
Mrs. Michael McKee of
Burlington, formerly of Kings
Mountain, and granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. McKee of
Kings Mountain and the late Mr.
and Mrs. Clifford Kircus.

dent while tak-
ing honors
courses. She

Prior to entering Saint Mary's,
McKee was a student at Walter
Williams High School in
Burlington, where she was a mem-

member of the Student Council.
An accomplished equestrian, she
will attend N. C. State University
in the fall.

couple on a first-come basis.
