First Race At New Hampshire
A host of Winston Cup drivers
journeyed north last week to join
the Busch Grand national drivers in
the first automobile race at the
New Hampshire Speedway.
The race was a spectators’ de-
light and a car owner's nightmare.
With 17 caution flags only 25 of
the original 46 cars were left at the
end of the race. The yellow flags
were mostly for multi car wrecks
and not just the "debris on the
track” flags seen on NASCAR su-
per speedways.
Tom Ellis beat out Harry Gant,
Chuck Bown, Morgan Shepherd
and Rick Mast to take the check-
ered flag.
Many people feel that the New
Hampshire facility will soon be
added to NASCAR's Winston Cup
schedule.
With the weekend off, Winston
drivers and teams took their Grand
up for future races. They got a
book full of notes and a lot of bent
sheet metal.
This weekend, Winston Cup
drivers head back north to Sunday's
race at Pocono International
- Speedway.
