_ Page 6A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, August 30, 1990 It's Pigskin Picking Time It's that time again! : The Kings Mountain Herald's i pigskin experts bring out their * crystal balls this week to begin an- £ other season of picking the winners “of each weekend's high school and college football games. Editor Gary Stewart came on :strong after a mid-season slump to tedge Bullet Bob Hayes by two ‘picks to win last year's competi- tion. The Big Guy from the KMPD vows revenge this year. Joining the dynamic duo as a season-long prognosticator this year is the Herald's publisher, Big D Austin. With Hayes determined to handcuff Stewart this year the editor said he had to beat some- body and he knew Big D knows very little, if anything, about foot- ball. There will be one guest picker this year as opposed to two last season. This week's guest is Big D's brother, Gino, thc night-time gospel DJ from WKMT and local racing expert. The four pickers differ on just a few games this week....but enough . to give one of them an early lead. RACING From Page 5-A switched from Oldsmobile to Chevrolet, a move most teams dread during the off season. Their success continued. Saturday morning in Bristol Kodak signed a three-year agree- ment with the Morgan-McClure team. Saturday night in the Busch 500, [rvan proved to Kodak, Morgan- McClure Racing and crew chief Tony Glover that he was the right choice. Making it even sweeter, it was also the first Winston victory for owner Larry McClure after 161 starts. PISGAH From Page 5-A "We actually spend time in prac- tice running in and out in all phases of the game, so our players know exactly what they're supposed to Sor ticks said. "You don't have to J%e an athlete to stay in a game and now where you're supposed to be. We wasted all three of our second «half timeouts and, quite obviously, we could have used them at the end.” THE YARDSTICK KM CP 1st downs. 2.7 Yds. rushing 70 158 Yds. passing 0 60 Passes 0-6 4-6 Punts 4-34 4-33 Fumbles 0 0 Yds. "We're young and inexperienced in a lot of positions," said Coach Bumgardner. "We've got several kids coming back but they're going into new positions. We look good up front and overall we're probably quicker than w were last year." Kings Mountain had a strong running game last year but Bumgardner hopes to develop a better passing attack this season. "Early in the season, though, we'll probably go mostly with the run,” he said. "The key to having a good running game is the ability to get outside and then have a tough kid who can get the yardage in- side." Bumgardner will be assisted this year by Ricky Fortner, Ronny Funderburke and Dave Faugherson. K.M. at B. City KM. KM. K.M. Burns at Crest Burns Burns Crest Burns Freedom at E. Ruth.
