brother, Walter Weaver; and sister,
Mrs. Alice Mae Wellmon of

was son of the late Walter and
Louise Bennett Smith and was em-
ployed by Lithium Corporation of
America. He was a member of
Four Square Gospel Church.
Surviving are his wife, Linda
Wilson Smith; two daughters, Lisa
McAllister of Victoria, Texas and
Susan McAllister of Bessemer
City; and grandson, James
Borroum.

Shirley Panther Adcock of Grover;
five brothers, Arthur Panther of
Blacksburg, S.C., Clifford Panther
of Grover and H. K., Willard and
Marvin Panther of Shelby; two sis-
ters, Priscilla Kendrick and Fannie

grandchildren and four great-

for Thomas Jeffreys Bass, 68, of
722 Neal Hawkins Road, who died
Sept. 7, 1990 at Kings Mountain
Convalescent Center, were held
Sunday at 3 p. m. at Olney
Presbyterian church, of which he
was an elder and deacon and had
worked with Boy Scout Troop 30
for 40 years.
Rev. Shane Owens officiated,
and interment was in Olney ceme-
tery.
A Henderson native, he was the
son of the late Dr. H. H. and Mary
Shepard Bass. He was retired from
Wix Corporation and a World War
II Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Frances
Dixon Bass; son, James Ruppe of
Gastonia; brother, Staton Bass of
Ellerbe; sister, Mrs. Kitty Griggs of
Durham; and one granddaughter.

for Mrs. Edith Leonard Thomas,
70, of 1531 Butternut Drive, who
died Sept. 6. 1990 at Carolina
Medical Center, Charlotte, were
held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First
Baptist Church, interment follow-
ing in Gaston Memorial Park.
Rev. Thomas A. Boorde and Dr.
A. Douglas Aldrich officiated.
Born in Norwood, Mrs. Thomas
was daughter of the late FE. R. and
Minnie Lou Kendall Leonard and
was wife of Paul A. Thomas. She
was a retired elementary school
teacher at South Gastonia
Elementary School.
Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of
Pfeiffer College and High Point
College and received her B. A. de-

Water Problems In Margrace
‘Old fittings in well pumps in the
Margrace community "blew up"
Thursday night and city workers
spent about 12 hours repairing the
damage.
City Community Director Tom
Howard described the scene as
"water everywhere" and said that
residents of Chesterfield
Apartments, Margrace Road,
Scotland Drive, Fulton Street,
Princeton Drive and Ark Street
were without water for 12 hours
while two crews made the repairs.
Howard said the break eccurred on
Fulton Street in the old well sys-
tem.
City crews were called out again
Saturday to repair a break in a line
in front of the old post office on
East Mountain Street.
Rescue Squad Gives Prizes
Kings Mountain Rescue Squad
presented four big prizes Saturday
night at Bethware Fair to winners
of drawings. Money donated to the
squad will be used to purchase res-
cue equipment.
Susan Jackson, 7273 Shauna
Drive, York, S.C., won the 25 inch
color console television set. A
$100 gift certificate from Winn-
Dixie of Kings Mountain went to
Tommy Barrett of 114 Paradise
Lane. A $50 gift certificate from

Mountain's Bethlehem Baptist
Church, of which he was a mem-
ber.
Rev. Fred Mauney and Rev. Sam
Snyder officiated, and interment
was in the church cemetery.
A native of Kings Mountain, he
was a former employee of Kings
Mountain Mica Company. He was
son of the late Frank Douglas and
Emmy Dover Earney and was mar-
ried to Rachel Bolin Earney.
Surviving, in addition to his
wife, are two sons, Johnny Eamey
and James S. Earney Jr., both of
Kings Mountain; daughter, Barbara
Jean Scott of Georgiana, Ala., step-
sons, DeWayne Wright and Robbie
Wright, both of Tallahassee, Fla.,
and six grandchildren.
