| | CELEBRITY READER - Ronnie Wilson, Kings Mountain Schools Assistant Superintendent, was celebrity reader in Hilda Kiser and Nancy Hughes' first grade classes at Bethware School. Joint Worship St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, located three miles east of Cherryville, will be hosting a joint worship service with her daughter congregations. Participating in the worship service called, “Celebrating Our Common Roots," are St. John's Lutheran Church of Cherryville and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church both of King's Mountain. The worship will begin at St. Mark's on Sunday, September CCC Enrollment Highest In 15 Years According to Cleveland Community College president Dr. L. Steve Thomburg, more students are enrolled in CCC this fall than in any quarter in the past 15 years. About 1,630 students signed up 23 at 4:00 in the afternoon. Pastors participating in the celebration are Rev. Mark J. Ericson, Rev. Harold G. Skinner, Rev. Harwood T. Smith Jr. and Rev. John W. Futterer. Each pastor will have a short meditation that will reflect the history and mission of his respective congrega- tian. {There will be a combined choir with representation from each con- gregation. The special anthem, "Crown Him With Many Crowns," since fall quarter of 1975 when ap- proximately 2,000 were enrolled. Enrollment in recent years has av- eraged about 1,300. T SIT, PATTERSON ronnie Mountain, who is married to Susan Heatherington Patterson, and Dr. Jerry Patterson of Chapel Hill, who is married to Kimbrough Cashion Patterson; and four grandchildren, Daniel and Brad Patterson of Chapel Hill and Aaron and Brandon Patterson of Kings Mountain. Son of thejlate Mr. and Mrs. J. Bun Patterson, Patterson is a retired employee of PPG Industries. An avid gardener, he is well known in Patterson Grove community as a vegetable gardener and shares his gar- den with friends. Mrs. Patterson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whisnant, is a retired florist designer. The Pattersons built their new home in the Patterson Grove Community in 1960. In retirement, they have enjoyed traveling and have made five irips with Mr. and Mrs. Willard Boyles on Boyles Tours, including a cruise to Nassau. In October, the Pattersons plan to take their second honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls, New York with the Boyles tour group. The Pattersons are active in Patterson Grove Baptist Church. Rev. and Mrs. Richard E. BENNETT rua Dorothy Bamette, daughter of the late Dillard and Cora Barnette, and Luther Bennett, son of the late Henry and Birdie Bennett, were married Sept. 6, 1940 at York,S. C. after his sister; Lois Rikard, introduced them to each other in 1939. Other members of the Bennett family are his brothers, Tib and Jack Bennett, and his sister, Louise B. Elgin. Other members of the Barnette family are Dot's brothers, Richard and Tommy Barnette, and her sister, Mrs. Martha Sue Wilson, all of Kings Mountain. Both Dot and Luther Bennett enjoy retirement. Bennett helps out in the sales office at Linwood Auto Sales and in his spare time enjoys working in the yard with his wife. Dot Bennett is an avid gardener with a "green thumb” that produces beautiful flowers year-round at their home on Linwood Drive. David Ratchford, a son of St. Mark's and now serving as organist and choir director at First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, S.C., will lead the com- bined choir and play the organ. Following the worship service, those who worshiped are invited to a catered barbecue. St. Mark's in- vited her daughter congregations to help her in "Celebrating Over 200 Years in Ministry." Low As *10 year, showed a significant increase. Dr. Thornburg believes there are several reasons for the increased enrollment. This year there was more aggressive recruiting and ad- vertising by CCC staff and the pub- licity associated with CCC's 25th anniversary helped raise the pub- lic's awareness of the college. Also, some students are continuing their education to hedge their bets against a possible recession.
