MR. AND MRS. MAURICE H. ROBERTS Mr. And Mrs. Roberts Celebrate 60th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Henderson Roberts celebrated their 60th wed- ding anniversary Aug. 31 and their family honored them at a dinner par- ty Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at Kings Mountain Country Club. Hosting the dinner party were their two daughters and their families: Mrs. Betty R. Gamble and her son and daughter-in-law, John and Ann Gamble, all of Kings Mountain; and Mr. and Mrs. William H. Bowen of Shelby and their children, Maurice Bowen and Dennie, Debbie Jo and Andrea Hinds, all of Shelby. Mauve colored linen tablecloths overlaid the tables which were cen- tered with mauve flowers. Mrs. Roberts chose a cranberry long-sleeved dress and was presented a cymbidium orchid by her daughters. Maurice Henderson Roberts of Shelby and Evelyn Hord of Waco were married in York, S.C. Aug. 31, 1930. Roberts is retired owner and operator of an automobile machine shop in Shelby, where he has been a life-long resident. The couple have been life-long members of Elizabeth Baptist Church. Present as special guests were Mrs. Roberts’ sisters, Mrs. William H. Williamson and Mrs. Paul Gold, both of Charlotte, and Mrs. Essie Spake and Mr. Roberts’ brothers and sisters, Mrs. Lee Freeman of Concord, Mrs. Faye R. Anthony, Mrs. Virginia King of Shelby, and Robert Lee Roberts and his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Robert Lee Roberts, Mrs. Eunice Roberts and William H. Williamson of Charlotte. Other relatives attending the party were Hugh Miller of Marion, Dick Miller of Maryland and Mr. and Mrs. Harold McSwain of Shelby. i MAYES Kevin Williams of Shelby was best man for the bridegroom. Groomsmen were Andy Brogden, Craig Mayes, brother of the bride, both of Kings Mountain, Tony Sewell of Shelby, Kevin Krause, brother- in-law of the bridegroom, and Tim Staskiewiez, both of Grand Rapids. Junior ushers were Travis Henry of Shelby and Benjamin Bumgardner of Kings Mountain. The bride's mother chose a cerise Georgette crepe chemise dress fea- turing a jewel neckline with Grecian touch glints with rhinestones en- hancing the assymetrical drape. The slim skirt tapered to floor length. She wore an orchid corsage. The bridegroom's mother chose a black dress with black and silver jacket. She also wore an orchid corsage. The bride's parents hosted the beautifully-appointed reception on the church lawn after the ceremony. The lawn was decorated with a water fountain and gazebo, both surrounded by fers and accented with mixed colorful flowers. The three-tier wedding cake was topped with fresh flowers and was served from a bride's table in the gazebo. Party foods and punch were served in a garden atmosphere. Women of the church assisted in serving refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. William J. Mayes of Kings Mountain are parents of the bride, who is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School and Isothermal Community College. She is employed as a cosmetologist at New Dimensions in Shelby. She is granddaughter of Samuel A. Burton and the late Ina P. Burton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frealo Mayes, all of Kings Mountain. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Marcia D. Lewis of Grand Rapids, Michigan an the late Michael J. Dempsey. A graduate of Paul D. Schrieber High School, Port Washington, New York and Cleveland Community College, he is employed as an automotive technician at Tedder Motor Company in Shelby. He is the grandson of Mrs. Rose Dempsey of Grand Rapids and the late Ray Dempsey and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Staskiewiez of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Out -of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Sam Burton of Cleveland, Keith Burton of Belmont, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyle Burton of Richmond, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Staskiewiez, Mrs. Rose Dempsey, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Spoelhof, and Mrs. Tom Staskiewiez, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. George Lewis of Grand Rapids, mother and stepfather of the bridegroom, hosted the rehearsal dinner Friday evening at Days Inn, Shelby, for members of the two families and wedding party. She was guest-of-honor August 26 with a miscellaneous and pantry bridal shower at Second Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The 25 guests, who called be- tween 2 and 4 p.m, showered the bride-to-be with gifts for her new home. Co-hostesses were Karen Moss, Charity Moss, Lou Mauney and Kim Carroll. Special guests were the bride- elect's mother, Diane Wellmon, and the bridegroom-to-be's mother, Pat Chapman and his sister-in-law, JENNIFER LINEBERGER First Birthday Sept. 18 For Jennifer Lineberger Jennifer Jean Lineberger, daugh- ter of Jeff and Karen Lineberger of Blacksburg, S.C., was one year old Sept. 18. She was honored Saturday afternoon at a party with family and friends at her home. The decorated bear-shaped cake was served with strawberry ice cream with all the trimmings. The teddy bear theme and balloons dec- orated the dining room. Jennifer is the granddaughter of Haskel and Reatha Blackwell of Kings Mountain and Harold and Patsy Lineberger of Dallas. Also attending the party was Ethan Lineberger and Dana Robinson, cousins of Jennifer. Engaged Pair Honored At Cookout Saturday Regina Martin and Robert Lutz, whose wedding will take place in Charlotte Oct. 6, were honored with a cookout Saturday evening at the home of Dr. and Mrs. John C. McGill. Also helping to host the party were Mr. and Mrs. Dorus Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Marriott Phifer, Mrs. D.F. Hord and Mr. and Mrs. Tim Gladden. Guests gathered in the family room for an appetizer. Following the appetizer, they were served a buffet of grilled chicken with all the trimmings. Dinner ended with a chocolate delight dessert. Guests sat at round tables on the beautiful ly-decorated screened porch of the McGill home. Guests for the party included the bridal couple, their parents, Mr. and Ms. J. P. Gamble showed slides of a recent trip to Australia at Monday's meeting of Kings Mountain Woman's Club. The Kings Mountain Senior High School Vocational Director, who is president of the club, was accompanied on the trip by Mrs. Peggy Baird, Mrs. Jessie Collins, all Woman's Club members, her sister, Mrs. Joann Bowen of Shelby, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sparks. Ladies of the Single Adults and Young Married Classes of David Baptist Church honored Miss Wellmon with a bridal shower on Sept. 13 at the church.
