Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, October 4, 1990 Obituaries DELORA QUEEN Funeral services for Mrs. Delora "Loddie" Biddix Queen, 60, of 139 Ark Street, who died Sept. 27, 1990 at Kings Mountain Hospital, were held Saturday at 3 p. m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Reimund Allmond and Rev. Oscar Stalcup officiated, and inter- ment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Travelers Rest, S. C., she was widow of Robert Eugene Queen and was daughter of the late Charles and Jena Gillian Biddix. She was a retired textile employee. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Surviving are her sons, Tommy Queen of Charleston, S.C. and Kenneth Queen of Kings Mountain; daughters, Mrs. Gloria Bryson of Gastonia, Mrs. Patricia Richardson of Bessemer City and Mrs. Elaine Lambert of Lake Wyle; brothers, Donald Biddix and Lee Biddix, both of Kings Mountain; sisters, Irene Biddix, Mrs. Jackie Dyke, Mrs. Betty Houser, Mrs. Jo Ann Cody and Mrs. Rhonda Cox, all of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Sandra Huggins of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren and one great-grand- child. MRS. STELLA CHILDERS SHELBY-Graveside services for Mrs. Stella Josephine Childers, 71, of Route 1 Penn Place, who died Sept.. 30, 1990 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital, were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gaston Memorial Park by Rev. Bill Ewing. Renovations Underway At Police Department Kings Mountain's old City Hall is getting a facelift. Workmen have been on the scene this week installing Carolina blue tile in the halls and offices and doing other interior refurbishing. Next on the agenda is trimming the roof, repairing the windows and replacing dental moldings and sof- fit and replacing the woodwork in the gable area. The outside of the building is still to be painted. Replacing the deteriorated wood on the soffit and front gable, re- placing and repairing flooring, patching ceilings and walls in squad rooms, and repair work on guttering are all proposed improve- ments. Estimated cost of the reno- vations is $25,000. Wednesday, Chief Warren Goforth, Captain Bob Hayes, for- mer chief Jackie Barrett,who is chairman of the architect commit- tee forthe new law enforcement S i Commissioner Fred Finger, “City Manager George Wood and Community Director Tom Howard were in Morganton and Lenoir vis- iting police departments with an eye to what the group wants to see in the new law enforcement center at the old post office downtown. Data To Be Kings Mountain businesses and industries will start getting tele- phone calls Monday and visits from a surveyor collecting data in- formation as the city moves to up- date with the N. C. Power Knocked Out At KM Water Plant Power was restored at 4 a.m. Friday morning at the Kings Mountain Water Plant after a vehi- cle struck a Duke Power utility pole that knocked out power for six hours. "The shock from the wreck pulled a couple of electrical wires loose and gripped the circuit on the Duke Power lines," said Walt Ollis, superintendent of the water plant, who said that the outage knocked the water pump out that pumps wa- ter to Kings Mountain. "Spectrum, which has a high us- age of water, may have noticed a slight interruption," he said. Shrine Barbecue Slated October 13 The annual White Plains Shrine Club fall barbecue sale will be held Sat., Oct. 13 beginning at 10 a.m. on the vacant lot beside City Auto and Truck Parks on Highway 161 at East Gold Street. Barbecue sandwiches, plates and shoulders will be sold. All pro- ceeds will go to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children and Shriners Burn Centers. CHURCH BENEFIT First Wesleyan Church will serve breakfast and sponsor a crafts sale from 6 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Mountaineer Day, Oct. 13. The public is invited. Last Monday, Chief Goforth and the group saw a slide presentation which had been prepared by Goforth after visiting four area po- lice departments , including Shelby, Morganton, Lenoir and Albemarle, in which they listed both positive and negative observa- tions and with the recently hired architectural firm presented a flip chart and booklet on what they want to see in the new facility in Kings Mountain. Wednesday's visit to Morganton and Lenoir by the group was to take another look at these two de- partments in Western North Carolina for some ideas on the new Kings Mountain facility. When the old police department is vacated it will become the home of the Kings Mountain Historical Museum. The city has budgeted funds for architectural fees in this year's bud- . get and hired Woolpert Associates of Charlotte at cost of $76,427.00., who are also expected to retain the historical architecture of the build- ing in the renovations expected to be budgeted by commissioners over several years before comple- tion. Collected All the information for a traffic survey will be compiled in October and November and will furnish a data collection agreement on exist- ing employment inventory and fu- ture projections of employment, population and dwelling units, says Gene White, Community Planner for the City of Kings Mountain. The survey will include a 100 percent business and employment inventory for the planning area by traffic analysis zone, said White. The city contracted with Isothermal, based in Rutherfordton, for the survey. ALONZO GOFORTH Funeral services for Alonzo "Lonnie" G. Goforth, 71, of 1821 Shelby Road, who died Oct. 1, 1990 at 4:40 a.m. at Kings Mountain Hospital, were conduct- ed Wednesday at 2 p.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church by Rev. Steve Lee and Rev. D. H. Lutz, interment following in the church cemetery. A native of Cleveland County, he was a retired textiles mainte- nance supervisor. He was married to Mrs. Wanza P. Goforth, who survives, and was son of the late A. Butler and Ella Mae Caldwell Goforth. He was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II OR gr iy Army and Air Force. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Mrs. Joan Tarlton of Charlotte and Mrs. Doris Borders of Harrisburg; brother, Theodore Goforth of Grover; sister, Mrs. Chester Jones of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to El Bethel United Methodist church.
