Kristen had a Big Bird birthday cake which was cut and served for dessert to family and friends. Kristen is also the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Long of Cherryville and great-granddaugh- ter: of Ruth Long of Kings Mountain and Margaret Harrelson of Cherryville. Kristen also won Walt Disney's World on Ice tickets given away by a local television station and she enjoyed seeing the Disney charac- ters. Mountain St. Kings Mountain KM Seventh Graders To Tour Spectrum Today And Friday Howard Jones, Spectrum Textured Yarns Corporate Director of Human Resources, is inviting seventh graders from Kings Mountain Middle School to tour the plant Thursday and Friday dur- ing the celebration of Textile Week. Jones said that employees of the sales and manufacture of package dyeing synthetic and natural yarns will conduct the plant tours. With 29 years experience in the textile business, Jones is a native of Boiling Springs, who came to Kings Mountain five years ago this week from Shelby's PPG plant where he was Quality Control Manager for New Products. He was previously Assistant to the President of Minette Mills at Grover for four years. He holds a business degree from Appalachian State University and Associate degrees in business and industrial management from Cleveland Community College. He is past president of Cherokee County Personnel Association and _a former officer of Cleveland County Industrial Relations Association. Jones is married to the former Shirley McSwain and they are par- ents of a daughter, Karen McPhaul. They have a grandson, Trey, and are active in Boiling Springs Baptist Church. HOWARD JONES Jones enjoys tennis, golf, bridge and chess and serves both Spectrum in Kings Mountain and Spectrum in Hickory as Corporate Director of Human Resources. The two plants employ 485 people. Jones said the firm welcomed a new Vice President of Manufacturing recently. He is Richard K. Kanipe of Belmont, who left Spectrum in 1987 to join Dixie Yams. Spectrum President is C. Douglas Blanc hard of Manhattan, New York, native of Burlington. It Was A Yellow Balloon In Travis Wats Ten-year-old Travis Watson no- ticed something yellow in the tree when his family returned home Sunday from worship services at Vestibule A.M.E. Zion Church. He climbed the tree to find a bal- loon which had been released by Ashley Davis, 609 Pleasant Place, Spartanburg, S.C. A note written in magic marker on the outside of the balloon asked the finder to write Ms. Davis. "I plan to write her this weekend and send her a picture of myself," said Travis, a fifth grade student at KM's East School. He hopes to learn why the balloon was re- leased.
