KYLE EUGENE SHEPARD Smith-Shepard Bethlehem Baptist Church was the setting Saturday for the wedding of Deda Denaye Smith and Kyle Eugene Shepard. Rev. Samuel Murphy, pastor of First Baptist Church of Bessemer City and a former minister of the church, officiated the ceremony. Mrs. Beth McDaniel was organist, Mrs. Nancy Hughes was pianist and Mrs. Robin Satterwhite of Gaffney, S. C. was vocalist for the pro- gram of nuptial music. Ken Smith escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. The bride's wedding gown was a formal-length sheath gown of reem- broidered French Alencon lace over bridal satin designed with a fitted bodice, long, fitted sleeves and Bateau neckline with dangling seed pearls and sequins on the neckline, sleeves and waist attached to a fitted sheath skirt. The detachable Cathedral length train of bridal satin was edged in matching French Alencon lace. She carried peach and green lilies, roses and azaleas mixed with white orange blossoms. Mrs. Debbie Smith Ross, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and Miss Darla Denette Smith, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Connie Lynn Bridges of Shelby and Miss Pamela Jo Morrow, Mrs. Donna Blackburn Henderson, and Mrs. Lisa Glenn Blackbur, all of Kings Mountain, cousins of the bride. All the attendants wore tea length gowns in jade green. The upper - bodice of satin was overlaid in lace and the dresses were enhanced by long, fitted sleeves. They carried arm-length bouquets of peach and “green assorted flowers. Miss Brooke Elise Blackburn, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Master Steven Brock Blackburn, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer. The bridegroom's father was best man. = Groomsmen were James Michael Shepard, Christopher Alan Shepard, and Mark Jerome Shepard, brothers of the bridegroom; Robert C. Helton and Robert Neal Quinn Jr., all of Gastonia. The bride's parents hosted the beautifully-appointed reception after the wedding in the church chapel, where the wedding colors were com- bined in decorative details. The bridegroom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner Friday night at the church chapel. Mr. and Mrs. W. Kenneth Smith of Kings Mountain are parents of the bride, who is a 1984 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School, where she was a member of Pep Club, FBLA, Carrousel Princess nomi- | nee and president of the annual staff. She is currently employed by Dot's Day Care. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Shepard of Gastonia. A 1983 graduate of Hunter Huss High School, he is employed by Gastonia City Police Department in the Traffic Division, where he is also a member of the Police Honor Guard. After a wedding trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and a cruise to Nassau and The Bahamas, the newlyweds will reside in Gastonia. i% §3 MR. AND MRS. CASEY DURHAM Bartlett-Durham Mr. and Mrs. Casey Durham were married September 8 at Lilebourne Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bartlett of Lilebourne, Ga. =” The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. T.G. Durham of Kings -Mountain. He is employed as a pilot for TWA Commuter Airlines in Charlottesburg, Va. Parties And Showers Honor Deda Smith Deda Smith was honored at sev- eral parties and showers prior to her wedding to Kyle Shepard. The home of Mrs. Donna Henderson of Kings Mountain was the setting for a bridesmaids lun- cheon on October 6. Co-hosting the luncheon were Mrs. Jo Ann Morrow, Mrs. Peggy Blackburn, Mrs. Lisa Blackburn and Ms. Pam Morrow, all of Kings Mountain. Tables were set up with white cloths with peach and green bro- cade flowers. Beautiful floral ar- rangements in peach decorated the tables. Guests found their places and were served a three course meal. Miss Smith took the occasion to present gifts to her attendants. Special guests were the bride- elect's mother, Mrs. Dot Smith of Kings Mountain, and the bride- groom-elect's mother, Mrs. Bernice Shepard of Gastonia. A miscellaneous bridal shower was given for Deda September 16 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church chapel. Hosting the shower were Peggy Blackburn, Jo Ann Morrow, Becky Wyte, Donna Henderson, Pam Morrow and Lisa Blackburn. The wedding theme of peach and green was beautifully featured in the decorations. The refreshment table was covered with lace over peach and held a floral arrange- ment and candles. Hurricane lanterns with candles were used in the windows. Guests enjoyed cake squares, vegetable sandwiches, nuts, veg- etable tray with dip, and punch. Special guests were the bride- elect's mother, Mrs. Dot Smith of Kings Mountain, and the bride- groom-elect's mother, Mrs. Bernice Shepard of Gastonia. Co-workers from the Gastonia Police Department honored the bride-elect with a miscellaneous bridal shower September 27 at the Police Department. Miss Smith was presented a corsage of peach rose buds. The wedding theme of peach and green was carried out in the decorations. The refreshment table was covered with a light peach cloth and held a floral arrangement of peach and white flowers. Guests enjoyed cake, nuts, veg- etable sandwiches and punch. Special guests were the bride- elect's mother, Mrs. Dot Smith of Kings Mountain, and the bride- groom-elect's mother, Mrs. Bernice Shepard of Gastonia. Engagement Announced Mrs. Richard Nelson of Charlotte and Lt. Col. Richard Kowalske of Beavercreek, Ohio, announce the engagement of their daughter, 2nd Lt. Lisa Marie Kowalske of Loring Air Force Base, Maine, to 1st Lt. Todd Wofford Gossett of Malstrom Air Force Base, Mont. He is the son of Mrs. Malcolm Brutko of Kings Mountain and Roy Gossett of Greensboro. The bride-to-be is a 1989 gradu- ate of UNC-Chapel Hill and holds a degree in communications. The prospective bridegroom is a 1988 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where he earned a degree in jour- nalism. A November 17 wedding is planned at Calvary Church in Charlotte. Travelogue Series Scheduled At CCC First National Bank of Shelby is presenting the final two travel- ogues of the Travel and Adventure Film Series at the Cleveland Community College auditorium. On Sat., Oct. 27 at 3 p.m., Howard and Barbara Pollard will present "This Is Israel." Phil Slayton will narrate "Norway-- Land of the Midnight Sun" on Sat., Nov. 10. Each film has been researched, written and produced by a profes- sional travelogue artist. Fewer than 100 such artists live and work in the U.S. Admission is free, however, tickets are required because of lim- ited seating. For tickets, call 484- 6293. POWER CELEBRATION First Wesleyan Church will have a Sunday Celebration of Power Sun., Oct. 28. Sunday School be- gins at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. The public is invited. CORRECTION Dallas Lee Stacey was incorrect- ly listed as the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stacey in an engagement an- nouncement in last week's Herald. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Stacey.
