Felts Has Own Style
Don't follow the style, set it. But,
you say, "I'd rather be dead than
out of style." When you really
think about it, you've got a cat
telling you what to wear and when.
Now, if you don't have enough to
put on a coat when it's cold or
shorts when it's hot, I reckon that's
okay.
Sure, it takes guts to say, "The
heck with the style this year, I'm
going to wear what I like."
However, it's the folks with origi-
nality that really get ahead. Most
any bozo can follow the crowd. I'll
warn you, being a free thinker will
get you a lot of flack, and snickers
behind your back. So what, these
people don't pay your bills. Their
egos are so big that they can't be-
lieve that you disagree with them.
Those of us who remember the
early days of Elvis know what a
drubbing he took from everything
from the media to the man on he
street. They couldn't’ even get his
style of music right. Some said he
was singing nothing but "race" mu-
sic or R&B. That's a misconcep-
tion. He borrowed from R&B, also
from country and country blues.
He laced them all together, adding
some phrasing like gospel singer
Jake Hess, and came up with his
own style. It was his music. He
didn't just follow the leader.
