And suddenly we heard a noise. Ka-boom. Ka-boom. We flashed the light toward the sound. There in the light was my cat thumping the wall with his tail. I felt so silly. It was only my cat. Aaron The Haunted House There once was a house on the other side of the street. No one has ever lived in it. It was the oldest house I ever saw. The shutters were all broken, the windows were cracked, and there were spiders and spi- der webs everywhere. Also the house was about three stories high. Well, one day I was walking to school will my friends Jessica and Tommy. They were brother and sis- ter. Except Tommy was older. Well, the day after the next I was coming home from school and went over the Jessica and Tommy's house to play. Tommy said, " I dare you to go in the house on the other side of the street.” And I said, "no." He thought I was a big chicken and he kept on say- ing that I was chicken until I said "yes." So the next day we rode our bikes to the house that day. I was very nervous. I was going to turn back but I knew Tommy was going to say chicken. So I walked step by step very slowly. I thought I saw someone in the house, but I must be seeing things because I was so nervous. I wanted to get it over with, so I went very fast. I opened the door very + slowly, and walked in. Then I realized that it was nine o'clock p.m, and it was Halloween night. I got more nervous. My legs were twittering and my teeth were moving up and down. I finally got calm and walked in and the door fell off. I went up stairs until I got to the third step and the step collapsed. I ran up to the top of the steps in five seconds. When I got there, there were footsteps in the other room. I cleared my ears but I kept hearing the footsteps. I knew it was someone. The footsteps sounded lighter. Suddenly I hit someone's back and I ran off until I got to another room. I found myself in a room filled with skeletons and other spooky Halloween stuff. Eeeeech! I ran and hit something. That thing and I fell down. We looked at each other and what do you know? It was a little boy lost from trick or treating, and he was trick or treating alone too. We got to know each other and we both tried to find a way out. We looked in every room except five because every room that we looked at always had something pop out of it. Well, I looked in one and it was the wrong one. The little boy looked in one, too, and boom! Wrong one. I looked at another and the little boy looked at one too, but both of them were wrong. So that leaves one more room, the middle room. So the little boy and I opened the door slowly and what do you know? It was the right door. We came out and saw thousands of kids trick or treating at all of the houses. The boy that was with me ran off and went trick or treating too. I had spider webs all over me and spiders too. It was a black widow spider. I tried to wipe it off but it wouldn't come out. Finally it came off and I ran to the other side of the street to my house. Tommy and Jessica said, "I dare you to go in the haunted house again tomorrow." I said, "No." Tommy called me a chicken but I didn't care. I would rather be called a chicken than to go back in the old house. So ever or never I went in that haunt- ed house again. Laddy P. The Haunted House I was at my friend's house one evening. It started to get late so I started home. As I was riding my bike home it started to thunder and lightning. Then I ran over a piece of glass. The next thing I knew I had a flat tire, so I got off my bike and started walking. I walked for what seemed like miles. I was looking for a house so I could call home. But nothing was in sight but woods. So I walked a little farther, when I noticed an old raggedy, run down house. It looked empty and scary. I didn't want to go there, but I was tired and wet. So I went up to the house and started to knock on the door but the door opened by itself. I waited a few seconds before I went in. The door slammed behind me. I tried to open it but it wouldn't open. I started to get really scared. I began to run to look for another way out. I saw a phone as I was run- ning. I stopped to use it but a big black widow spider was on the phone. I kept running. I couldn't find another way out. Then I started to get very sleepy, so I laid down on the floor to go to sleep. I thought if I got some rest I could think better. As I was falling asleep I started to hear a noise that sounded like chains. The noise started to get louder as if it were coming closer to me. Then, all of a sudden, the noise was right beside me. I looked around and didn't see anything, so I fell asleep. The next morning I found out what the noise was. It was a cute little dog on a thin, silver chain. I guess he had gotten loose and lost like I was. Nikki W. The Day I Went Trick Or Treating One day I went trick or treating with my family. We went to thirty houses and we filled dup our pails of candy. Then we got done and went into our car.. It was raining and thundering. When we started the car we found out that we ran out of gas. Dad and Mom got mad and said, "we have to walk in the rain and try to find a gas station." We walked and walked for miles and miles. Our pails were full of water and our candy was soggy. Then, out of nowhere somebody bumped into me. I screamed very loud. Then I recognized it was my sister. I told her she scared me. She said, "I'm sorry. It was so dark I couldn't see you." I said "that's O.K. I understand." We kept walking. We still couldn't find a gas station. We walked and walked. Suddenly we heard voices. My sister got scared. I walked over to the bushes and we saw eight people having a conversation. They were talking about which house they were going to haunt next. My sister was scared. She made noises. The host heard her and they started chasing us. Miles and miles we all ran. Then we got into our car and drove home. Nobody knew who filled up the car with gas. Lynne Q. One Crazy Night On a dark and spooky night I was riding my bike home from a friend's house. I must have gotten on the wrong road because all I saw was woods. Finally, I saw a house. I walked up to the door. I was getting ready to push the door bell but it disappeared. So I knocked and this big, fat man opened the door. He said, "may I help you?" "Ca-ca-can I use your te-te-telephone?” "Go right ahead," he said. I tried but the telephone was dead. So I asked him if I could stay over. He said, "yes, if you need clothes look in the closet." I went upstairs and looked in the closet and there was a man hanging. I ran down the stairs and got on my bike and left. (Unsigned) Another Football Field One night I was passing football at the old City Stadium. I threw the football and it went into the graveyard. Matt and Nicholas told me to go get it. I was about to pick it up and just then a hand from the ground pulled it under. So I got Nicholas and Matt to come up there and we grabbed some shovels and started dig- ging. Finally we hit a casket. We opened it up and it was a doorway to an underground football field. Skeletons were passing our football. They were play- ing a game when we climbed in the casket. We tried to get the ball back. Finally, we got it and the skeletons started to chase us. We started running. They chased us all over town. We tried to climb a tree but the trees were made out of bones. They crumbled when we tried to climb them. Finally, we lost the skeletons and we ran back to the opening. We jumped out, shut the door and covered it up.
