MRS. GARY MICHAEL EDWARDS

Joanne Dean Verhalen of Fayetteville became the bride of Gary Michael
Edwards of Fayetteville in a 7 p.m. ceremony Saturday, Oct. 27, in the
Gatlinburg Chapel, Gatlinburg, Tenn. The Rev. Ed Taylor officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Thomas and Lodema Dean Scarborough of
Zebulon and the late Amos F. Dean, former owner of Dean Buick Co. in
Kings Mountain. She is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School,
Wingate Junior College, and the Florida School of Real Estate. She was
formerly employed as director of marketing and training with Hunt
Properties in Raleigh.
Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Alex G. Edwards of
Mebane. A graduate of East Alamance High School and Alamance
Technical Coilege, he is a textile consultant and owner and president of
Carolina Industrial Services Inc,
Given in marriage by her brother, Frank M. Dean of Marion, the bride
wore a two piece gown of ivory French chantilly lace over satin. The dress
featured a drop waistline and opera length lace skirt. A jacket of matching
lace was designed with a high neckline trimmed with pearls and iridescent
beads and long dolman sleeves of French chantilly lace accented with
pearls and iridescent beads on the cuffs. Her headpiece was designed in
lace, pearls and iridescent beads with a large pouf and three tiered veil.
Honor attendant was Phyllis B. Hammock of Raleigh, sister of the bride.
She wore a three piece suit of black wool crepe. Her blouse was of gold se-
quins and the shoulders of the jacket were trimmed with gold sequins. She
carried a long stem gold rose with baby's breath.
Alex Edwards was his son's best man. Serving as usher was Tony
Hammock of Raleigh.
Immediately following the ceremony, the couple hosted a dinner at the
Burning Bush Restaurant in Gatlinburg.
Following a honeymoon in Gatlinburg the couple will be at home in
Fayetteville.
"The Woodys’ ‘and "The Florida
Boys" will be in concert November
10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincolnton
Citizens Center.
Advance tickets are $5 each and
are available at Lighthouse Book
Store in Lincolnton and Carolina
Christian Book Store in Gastonia.
Tickets at the door are $6.

Hipps-Homesley
Deborah Lynne Homesley and Roy Dean Hipps exchanged marriage
vows Saturday, Oct. 27 in a ceremony at the Kings Mountain Depot. The
Rev. Jeff Glynn officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gean L. Homesley of Kings
Mountain and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Homesley of
Cherryville. A graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School, she is
employed by Clevemont Mills.
Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hipps of Kings
Mountain. He is the grandson of Austin Bell of Kings Mountain. A
graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School, he is employed by
Eaton Corp.
A program of wedding music was presented by Evelyn Bridges, pi-
anist, and Mike Chambers, vocal soloist.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of
white satin. It was designed with a high neckline and long sleeves ac-
cented with Alencon lace. The fitted bodice of Alencon lace had a natu-
ral waistline. The full skirt extended into a chapel-length train. She car-
ried a bouquet of white and mauve roses, lily of the valley, stephanopis,
ivy and pearls.
Matron of honor was Janet H. Mezey of Gastonia, sister of the bride.
She wore a dress of suede rose satin with a chiffon overlay, lace bodice
and long lace sleeves. The dregs was designed with a deep V back. She
carried a bouquet of mauve roses, lily of the valley stephanopis and
pearls.
Arthur Sprouse of Grover was best man. Serving as usher was Gary
Tippins of Kings Mountain.
Immediately following the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained at
a reception at the Kings Mountain Depot Center.
After a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple will be at home in Kings
Mountain.

A program of wedding music was presented by Shirley Newton of
Oxford, organist, and vocalists Dr. Robert Phillips and Mrs. Claude
Phillips of Durham and Rodney Green of Garner.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of
white satin and embroidered Alencon lace with floral appliques, sequins
and pearls. It featured a basque bodice and leg-of-mutton sleeves. The
skirt extended to a chapel-length train with a scalloped hem trimmed in
lace. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion was attached to a camelot hat with
pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white button pom poms, baby's
breath and status with mixed foliage
Honor attendant was Holly Barlowe of Chapel Hill. Bridesmaids were
Lana Hedgecock of High Point, Dawn Carney of Chapel Hill, Susan
John of Cottageville, S.C., Christa Williams of Durham and Charity
Williams of Charlotte.
They wore tea-length dresses designed with black velour bodices with
puffed sleeves, scooped necklines and the back featured a V-neck and
was accented with a large bow. The skirts were of hot pink satin. They
carried nosegays of pink and hot pink miniature carnations and pom-
poms, status, baby's breath and greenery.
Dr. Spurr was his son's best man. Serving as ushers were David Jeans
of Raleigh, Rodney Green of Garner, Jeff Weaver of Raleigh, Paul Spurr of
Winston-Salem and Harvey Spurr III of Charlotte.
Immediately following the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained at a
reception at the Oxford Woman's Club. The bridegroom's parents were
hosts at a rehearsal dinner, also at the Oxford Woman's Club.
The couple left the reception in an old fashioned horse-drawn buggy.
After a trip to Charleston, S.C., and Asheville, the couple is at home in
Burlington.
