CHARLES M. PUTNAM
Charles Morris Putnam, 51, of
101 Amelia Road, Kings
Mountain, died November 3, 1990
in Norfolk, Va.
A native of Cleveland County,
he was the son of Lala Wright
Putnam of Kings Mountain and the
late Wayne Putnam. He was retired
as a butcher for Harris-Teeter. He
was a member of Patterson Grove
Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is
survived by five sons, Randy
Putnam of Norfolk, Va., Darrell
Putnam, Cody Putnam and Greg
Putnam of Kings Mountain, and
Lanny Bergstrom of McPherson,
Kansas; one daughter, Dawn
Johnson of Norfolk, Va.; two
brothers, Russell Putnam and
Hoyle Putnam of Kings Mountain;
two sisters, Betty Jones of Kings
Mountain and Sue Jones of Forest
City; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by
the Rev. Richard Plyler Wednesday
at 11 a.m. at Patterson Grove
Baptist Church. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
LONA WILLIAMS
Avalona Mae "Lona" Champion
Williams, 83, of 116 Walker Street,
Kings Mountain, died October 31,
1990 at her home.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the daughter of the late
George Washington and
Georgianna McSwain Champion
and wife of the late Julius T.
Williams. She was a homemaker
and member of David Baptist
Church.
She is survived by one son, Max

Williams of Hollywood, Fla.; six
daughters, Lucille Wyte, Corrine
Hamrick and Victoria Sellers of
Kings Mountain, Pauline
Arrowood of Forest City, Thelma
Weaver of Shelby and Linda
Carpenter of New Haven, Conn.;
47 grandchildren; and 62 great-
grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Friday at 3 p.m. at David Baptist
Church. The Revs. Claude
McIntosh, Bob Hicklin and Scott
Carpenter officiated. Burial was in
the church cemetery.
JAMES BARNETT
BESSEMER CITY - James
"Jimmy" Barnett, 85, of 707 S.
Skyland Drive, died November 3,
1990 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
he was the son of the late James
and Sallie McCullough. He was a
retired farmer.
Survivors include two sons,
Michael Barnett of Kings
Mountain and Harold Barnett of
Fallston; four daughters, Nina
Floyd of Kings Mountain, Brenda
Gordon of Gastonia and Dolly
Adams and Aileen Feemster of
Bessemer City; three brothers,
George Barnett of Kings Mountain,
Raymond Barnett of Baltimore and
David Barnett of Bronx, N.Y.; two
sisters, Lila Falls of Rock Hill,
S.C., and Olivia Bell of Kings
Mountain; 21 grandchildren; and
14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by
the Revs. Eddie Ponder, Pruella
Kilgore, Cornelius Bell and
Eugene Early at 3 p.m. Thursday at

Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the church ceme-
tery.
PAUL MARTIN
BESSEMER CITY - Paul Elsey
Martin, 86, of 302 West Virginia
Avenue, died Friday, November 2,
1990 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A Cherokee County, S.C., na-
tive, he was a retired textile work-
er. He was the son of the late
Colonel Abraham and Violet
Louella Sneed Martin.
He is survived by one son, John
Martin of Kings Mountain; one
daughter, Edna Novak of Bessemer
City; two brothers, Clyde Martin of
High Point and Garland Martin of
Kings Mountain; four sisters,
Annie Mae Farnsworth and
Dorothy Sellers of Bessemer City,
Jeanette M. Neill of High Point and
Ethel M. Rhyne of Stanley; six
grandchildren; and four great-
grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by
Chaplain Jack H. Cooke Sunday at
2 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home
Chapel in Cherryville. Burial was
in Shady Grove Baptist Church
Cemetery in Cherryville.
MABLE W. LOGAN
STANLEY - Mable Warlick
Logan, 77, of Route 1, died Fri.,
Oct. 26, 1990 at Presbyterian
Hospital in Charlotte.
A native of Lincoln County, she
was the daughter of the late
Solomon and Etta Heavner
Warlick. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Hugh A. Logan Jr.
She is survived by two sons,
Hugh A. Logan III of Kings

name was listed on a cover sheet
that did not accompany the stories.
