The first report cards of the cal- endar year and the semester report cards were given out January 24. Report cards showed the semester, nine weeks and the exam grades. Report cards will be given again April 11. Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about their grades and, if necessary, call the school (734-5667) to schedule a conference with teachers. A Parent Teacher Organization meeting was held Tues., Jan. 29, The PTO discusses the school and environment in which students are taught. The math fair is an event in which students prepare exhibits in which mathematic experiments were made at home. It was due Mon., Jan. 28. Exhibits were open to the pubic that evening and the next night for the PTO. Results of the competition will be reported next week. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest was held recently. Students wrote about the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States. Some sixth, seventh and eighth grade English classes competed. There were six local winners and two district winners. Winners in the eighth grade were Haley Bridges, first; and Nicole Setzer, second. Seventh grade win- ners were Christopher Henderson, first, and Andy Welborn, second. Sixth grade winners were Michael NORTH SCHOOL SPEAKER-Yehia Ayad, an Egyptian studying Bumgardner, first, and Jason Crawford, second. The winning entries then went (0 district competition and Kings Mountain had two winners. Michael Bumgardner won first place in the sixth grade and Christopher Henderson was second in the seventh grade. at the U. S. Naval Base in Panama City, Fla. under Capt. Lanny Guyton of Kings Mountain, delighted North School third graders in Miss Phifer's and Mrs. Bennett's classes with his accent and culture as he talked about his family, language, Egyptian foods, Pyramids and the Sphinx during a recent program. You are invited to Kings Mountain Federal Credit Union's annual meet- ing. The meeting will be February 21, 1991 at Resurrection Lutheran Church (600 Crescent Circle) at 7:00 pm. Biggers of Kings Mountain, has been named to the fall semester Dean's List at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Miss Biggers, a third year law student, is a member of the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation, and is also active in the law school's Criminal Clinic Program. Miss Biggers graduated magna cum laude in 1988 from Wake Forest University: with a double major in history and politics. ON DEAN'S LIST - John Fletcher Webster of Kings Mountain was named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Campbell University. The Dean's List recognizes students who have achieved an average of 3.25 or bet- ter in completing 12 or more semester hours. STATE DEAN'S LIST - Six area students were named to the fall semester Dean's List at N.C. State University. Elizabeth Birskovich and David Alexander Shaw, both of Kings Mountain, made B+ or better on all courses. Four students made perfect A on all courses.
