After their wedding the couple moved to Bennettsville, S. C., where Tom was manager of Carolina Theatre for 7 1/2 years. The theatre was open seven days a week and Tom recalled that since Palmer Air Field was located there that the movie house was always full of servicemen and their dates. The Trotts' older daughter, Anne, was born in Bennettsville before the family relocated in Statesville and Tom joined Maryland Insurance Company in 1951. Their second daughter, Libby, was born in Statesville. The couple moved back to Kings Mountain in 1952 and Tom worked for Carolina Freight Carriers. They lived in the Norris Apartments at 104 East King Street. Since 1957 Trott Insurance Agency has been a successful Kings Mountain business and "Trot To Trott" is the familiar logo he has used to advertise the business he operates from an office in his home. Trott's friends ribbed him that if he didn't starve during his first five years in the insurance business over 35 years ago he'd make it. COUPLE From Page 1-A Morningstar Baptist Church of Shelby. Suzanne, who attended Gaston College and is a se- nior at Gardner Webb College, will receive her de- gree May 11 in elementary education and is doing her practice teaching at North School 4th grade with Roxanne Gaffney. For the past four years she has at- tended night classes to complete her college educa- tion and also worked at KM Chiropractic Center, for the past three years on a part-time basis. She enjoys painting sweatshirts and works once a month in Children's Church at KM Church of God, where she is an active member. Eric proposed to Suzanne on May 6 just before her family left for a trip to Florida. "I was so excited to get my diamond but disappointed I had to wait until we got back from Florida to share the good news with my friends," she said. Eric said the couple planned to tie the knot August 3 but decided on a June date when he learned his sis- ter and brother-in-law, Susan and Scott Jenkins of Boiling Springs, are expecting their first baby in August. That decision meant that Suzanne, the only child of Gary and Judy Bolin, wouldn't have as much time Selena became a sales clerk at Myers’ Department Store (later Fulton's Department Store) for nine years and endeared herself to customers because of her pleasing personality and engaging smile. When the late O. W. Myers hired Selena, he told her she was to speak to every customer regardless of whether or not a sale is made. At the death of her mother in 1961, the Trott fami- ly moved in the Parton residence with Selena's father and continued there after his death in 1977. The home is filled with family mementos of happy times and is furnished with some of her mother's favorite pieces and with some of the furnishings from Tom's and Selena's home in Kannapolis. Known as "Mr. Rotary" in Kings Mountain, Tom organized Kings Mountain Rotary Club in 1958 and served as president and in most all other offices, in addition to being twice honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He also has perfect attendance since 1958. A scholarship is given by the Rotary Club each year in his honor. Buckeyes from Tom are a favorite gift to visitors at Rotary who are told the story of the good luck charm from the Great Smoky Mountains. Selena's uncle, the late Floyd Woody of Canton, started giving Tom the buckeyes years ago and the Kings Mountain man has continued the good luck tradition. Tom en- joys reading and all sports except tennis and golf. Selena is active in the Woman's Club, Thursday to make plans for the nuptials. The couple is planning a black and white formal, 6 p.m., candlelight cere- mony and candlelight reception. There will be eight bridal attendants. Suzanne's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wells Jr., Eric's parents, Katherine and Roger Grayson, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Huskey and Mrs. Mary Grayson, are also excited about wedding plans and family celebrations. Mr. Huskey celebrated his 95th birthday this week. Mrs. Grayson, at 75, 0p- erates her own beauty shop in Shelby. Eric will celebrate his 24th birthday February 17th. Gary and Judy Bolin will celebrate their 25th wed- ding anniversary June 11. Suzanne is also granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bolin of the Dixon community. Chicken divan and brownies are two of the fami- ly's favorite dishes she prepares for Eric who is the chef when it's time to grill steaks. : ‘The Bolin family say they're proud to be gaining a son. The Grayson family say they're proud to be gaining another daughter. "We broke up twice during our courtship," said Suzanne, who believes now their love is even stronger. Suzanne has dated Eric since she was 16 and he was 17. Eric agrees their relationship is solid. "I don't want her to get fat," teased Eric of his bride-to-be, a slender beauty who takes aerobic class- es three times a week. Pega Thursday, February 14. 1991 -THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 3A Afternoon Book Club, Open Gate Garden Club and Southern Arts Society. Tom and Selena are active in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Their church is im- portant to them. On their honeymoon, Tom gave his bride a tour of Patterson Episcopal School for Boys in Happy Valley, Lenoir. She had heard so much about the boarding school that was home to Tom from age 5-16 that Selena was anxious to see it. The Trotts are proud of their daughters and their families. ; Anne T. Pressley is a complaint investigator with the Department of Human Resources in Raleigh. Libby Blanton, who is in the banking industry, is married to Jerry Blanton, who is associated with Concrete Supply in Shelby, and they are parents of Molly, 6th grader at KM Middle School, and Adam, second grader at Bethware School. The grandchildren are the Trott's pride and joy and Tom and Selena love to entertain the children with sports events, swimming, hiking, and family get-to- gethers at their cabin at Lake Montonia. The first years were years of struggle, but the Trotts' marriage matured because both bride and bridegroom worked to make it successful. Tom pre- sented Selena a gold locket over 50 years ago with their pictures inside and a gold dinner ring which she treasures. | The Trott family honored Selena as a Paul Harris Fellow, the first woman so honored by local Rotarians. What is Selena's favorite love gift on Valentine's Day? A box of Whitman's candy, of course, but she always gets a special card from the love of her life who used to sign his letters to her, "yours truly.’ Selena and Tom on their wedding day 471 /2 years ago married 'for better or for worse, richer or poorer.” They said you should not take your marriage day-to- day or even year-by-year. Lump it all together. And don't forget to say, 'I love you." With the wisdom that comes from nearly a half century of togetherness, through the ups and downs of living, the Trotts define love about the same as they did when they were wed. You're drawn together and you need to be able to do things together and for them that has been their family, church and commu- nity activities. They call it a privilege to share each others lives.
