HERBERT HICKS
BLACK MOUNTAIN-Herbert
Enrico Hicks, 69, of 309
Tabernacle Road, died April 22,
1991 in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Kings Mountain, he
was son of the late Joseph Grayson
‘and Bessless Ware Hicks. He re-
' tired as postmaster of Pisgah Forest
Post Office in 1976 with 34 years
of service. He was a member of
National Association of Postal
- Union Supervisors. He was the
husband of Mildred Bratcher
Hicks, who died in 1983. He was a
member and former deacon of
Swannanoa First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia
Martin Hicks; two sons, Larry
Eugene Hicks of Black Mountain
and Allen Reid Hicks of Aiken,
S.C.; two stepsons, James H.
Moyers of Marion and Fred B.
Moyers of Swannanoa; eight sis-
ters, Rebecca Stewart of Kings
Mountain, Margretta Blanton of
Shelby, Mary Ruth Allison of Old
Fort, Nina Parks of Nebo, Shirley
Adams of Gaffney, S.C., Melba
Hemmings of Rural Hall, Verna
Pressley of Blacksburg, S.C.,
Lillian Dwyer of St. Petersburg,
Fla.; three brothers, Robert S.
Hicks of Des Moines, Iowa, Jack
H. Hicks of Waukesha, Wis., and
Charles H. Hicks of Little
Rock,Calif.; and nine grandchil-
dren.
The funeral was conducted at
3:30 p.m. April 25, 1991 at
Swannanoa First Baptist Church.
Rev. Jerry P. Pereira officiated.
Burial was in Mountain View
Memorial Park.

SHELBY-Dorothy Ruppe Cash
Kozlowski, 63, of 1028 Fallston
Rd., died April 26, 1991 at home.

Kitchen, Daytona, Fla.
Surviving are her first husband,
Lloyd Cash of Morganton; one son,
Roger Cash of Boardman, Oregon;
one daughter, Elaine Thompson of
Port Orange, Fla.; three brothers,
Henry Ruppe and Jerry Dean
Ruppe, both of Shelby, and Johnny
Ruppe of Polkville; four sisters,
Faye McNeilly of Shelby, Harriet
Cook of Marietta,Ga., Mamie Lou
Lackey of Polkville and Juanita
Haskins of Boling Springs; four
grandchildren and onc great-grand-
child.
The funeral service was con-
ducted April 28, 1991 at 2 p.m. at
Lutz-Austell Chapel. Rev. Keys
Pendleton and Dr. Harold Fite offi-
ciated. Interment was in Cleveland
Memorial Park.
ORA D. COLLINS
Mrs. Ora Dellinger Collins, 83,
of 201 Linwood Road, died April
30, 1991 at Kings Mountain
Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she
was widow of W. FE. Collins and
daughter of the late Frederick
Washington and Minnie Cobb
Dellinger. She was a member of
Grace United Methodist Church
and Daughters. of the American
Revolution.
Surviving are four sons, Bob
Collins and S. A. Collins, both of
Kings Mountain, Clyde Collins of
Arlington, Va. and Emest Collins
of Grover; one daughter, Mary
Greene of Kings Mountain; 11
grandchildren and five great-grand-
children.
- The funeral will be conducted
May 2, 1991 at 4 p.m. at Grace
United Methodist Church. Rev.
Frank Gordon and Rev. Larry
Burns will officiate. Burial will be
in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
FLOYD YATES ROSS
Floyd Yates Ross, 85, of 813
Second St., died April 30, 1991 at
home.
A native of Kings Mountain, he
was son of the late William
Anderson and Mary Elizabeth
McClure Ross and was married to
the late Jennie Payne Ross. He was
a retired textile employee and a
member of Second Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jimmy
Ross of Kings Mountain and Glenn
Ross of Charlotte; three daughters,
Ann Chaney and Faye Gladden,
both of Kings Mountain and Beryl
Hambright of Grover; three broth-
ers, Bill Ross, John Ross and Bud
Ross, all of Kings Mountain; one
sister, Lillian Mincey of Gastonia;
15 grandchildren; 23 great grand-
children and one great-great grand-
child.
The funeral will be conducted
May 2, 1991 at 2 p.m. at Second
Baptist Church. Rev. Gene Land
will officiate. Interment will be in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family is at the home of a
daughter, Ann Cheney, 205 Fulton
Street.
Memorials may be made to
Kings Mountain Lions Club.
LESTER H. BULLOCK
Lester Hayward Bullock, 77, of
304 Edel Street, died April 30,
1991 at home.
A native of Cherokee County, S.
C., he was the son of} the late
Thomas and Fatha Pruitt Bullock
and was married to the late Victoria
Carroll Bullock. He was a retired
cardroom textile employee.
Surviving are two sons, Dean
Bullock and David Bullock, both
of Kings Mountain; four daughters,
Nellie Moore, Thelma Burton, and
Shirley Stamey, all of Kings
Mountain; two sisters, Beulah
Strickland of Kings Mountain and
Esmer Ligon of Gaffney, S.C.; 16
grandchildren and seven great-
grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted
May 3, 1991 at 3 p.m. at Grover
Church of God. Rev. Joe Heffner
and Rev. Mike Bare will officiate.
Interment will be in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends
Thursday night from 7 until 9 p.m.
at Harris Funeral Home.

Church women to meet tonigh
"Being A Church Woman In
Today's World" will be the topic
when Dr. Jane P. Mitcham speaks
to the 6th annual meeting of Kings
Mountain Church Women
Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at

a B.A. degree
from Lenoir Rhyne
College and a M.A.T. of Health
Education from the University of
South Carolina. She is a N. C. cer-
tified marital and family therapist
and is a clinical member of the
American Association for Marriage
and Family therapy. She is certified
as a parent effectiveness instructor,
youth effectiveness instructor,
transactional analysis instructor
and active parenting instructor.
Dr. Mitcham has written several
publications. She presents work-
shops on a variety of topics of in-
terest in today's complex world.
She is married to Dr. L. William
Mitcham and has two married chil-
dren and three grandchildren. She
has served as past president of
Lutheran Coalition for Life
Enrichment Education.
The Kings Mountain Council of
Church Women was organized in
the fall of 1985 by Martha P.
Bridges, who was then serving as
president of Lutheran Church
Women from St. Matthew's
Lutheran Church. Her invitation
was "to participate in organizing a
sharing/communicating between
and among the local church wom-
en's groups." Five churches re-
sponded and in May 1986 ladies
from St. Matthew's, Central United
Methodist, Resurrection Lutheran,
First Presbyterian and Boyce
Memorial ARP Churches celebrat-
ed with fellowship and food and a
guest speaker. Kings Mountain.
Baptist Church joined in 1987 and
First Baptist Church joined in
1990. SY

gether at Resurrection Church for
an evening of food, fellowship and
to hear Dr. Mitcham.

John E. Trainer Jr., Ph.D., presi-
dent of Lenoir-Rhyne College in
Hickory, will be guest speaker
Sun., May 5 at 7 p.m. at Saint
Matthews Lutheran Church.
Dr. Trainer became the ninth
“president of Lenoir-Rhyne in 1984.
Since his inauguration, the college
has increased its endowment from
$7.9 to over $18 million and has
launched special projects in aca-
demic excellence, student leader-
ship development and campus im-
provement. The college recently
launched a $24 million centennial
fund raising drive, has been identi-
fied as one of 10 "exemplary aca-
demic workplaces" by The Council
of Independent’ Colleges, and for ~
the last two years was named by
18: Ndws and ‘World Report as
one of PAmerica's Best Colleges."
Dr. Trainer presently serves on
several national boards and com-
mittees and is actively involved in
civic organizations.
Dr. Trainer's topic May 5 will be
on the Christian College as part of
the church's outreach. The
Evangelism Committee, which is
sponsoring this event, invites the
public to attend.
