me at ball games about utility bills
but I am always courteous and
transfer their requests through
proper channels,” said Smith.
Smith advocates the board as
policy makers and said the admin-
istration has followed through with
leaving the administrative matters
up to the city manager and staff.
BRANDON MITCHELL
"We think we're getting it across
that all service calls should be
lodged by calling city hall."
Smith said he had seen a com-
plete 'turnaround’ in the attitude of
department heads and employees at
city hall "now that they are left
“alone to do their jobs. "1 am proud
“ofthe professional people we have.
working for the city. Our board has
faith in George Wood and the peo-
ple who work with and for us and
we're proud,” he said.
"I didn't run for office to be
mayor forever,” said Smith, who
wants to travel with his wife,
Mikie.

Warren Goforth says the Police

iated with the Kings Mountain

Goforth said that local officers

‘Coming
of Age’
"Nobody understands me" was
the common complaint by
teenagers in the musical, "Coming
of Age," Friday night at Barnes
Auditorium. By the end of 11
scenes the 13-year-olds matured as
they made friends and discovered
they didn't have to dress like every-
one else to be "cool."
A large cast of Kings Mountain
Middle School students sang,
danced and talked in classroom and
hall settings about peer pressure
under direction of Assistant
Principal Mary Accor. A choral
concert at intermission was pre-
sented by music students. .
