New Family Worship Center
A worship service and ground-
breaking for the new Family
Worship Center at 1818 Shelby
Road was held recently.
This church, presently known as
the Kings Mountain Church of
God, was organized in 1937 and
has been located since 1942 at the
corner of East Parker and North
Gaston Street in Kings Mountain.
"It was a happy day for our con-
gregation, " said member Ronnie
Whetstine, who said that Pastor
James E. Allen led the worship ser-
vice and Mayor Kyle Smith and
County Commissioner Joyce
Cashion participated in the ground-
breaking, along with building
contractors and architects.
Eddie Kee of Carolina Artisans
is general contractor and Eddie
Smith is architect.
Whetstine is chairman of the
building committee which is start-
ing Phase I of a multi-phase build-
ing program. Phase I, appraised for
over half a million dollars, will
consist of a sanctuary, church of-
fices and Sunday School class-
rooms designed to accommodate a
congregation of 300. Long range
plans include additional class-
rooms, a sanctuary to seat 600 and
a day school.

pastorate duties June 30 at a two-
church charge at Grace Chapel:
Church in Granite Falls and Rev.
Patricia Stone will move from
Morganton as pastor of the Kings
Mountain church.
The assignments were an-
nounced this week at the annual
Western North Carolina Methodist
conference attended by 2,000 peo-
ple at Lake Junaluska.
Gordon has served as a volun-
teer fireman and chaplain of KM"
Rescue Squad and has been a lead-
er in the Crisis Ministry of the
Kings Mountain Ministerial
Association. Mrs. Gordon has been
a Hospice volunteer and active in
Women's Aglow.
The Gordons and two children,
Hannah and Sarah, will be honored
Sunday, June 23, at a reception at
Grace Methodist Church fellow-
ship hall and the public is invited.
Wayside sets revival
Evangelist Wayne Wright will
lead special services in a "Holy
Ghost revival” beginning Friday
and continuing through Sunday at
Wayside Church of the Living
God.
Services will begin at 7 p.m.
each evening Friday and Saturday
and will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.
The church is located on Long
Branch Road.
‘VAN "DICKIE" HOYLE
Van Richard "Dickie" Hoyle, 37,
of 133 Mary's Grove Church Road,
died June 5, 1991 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County,
he was the son of Margaret
Champion Hoyle of the home and
the late Clayton H. Hoyle.
He was employed as Golf Pro at
Kings Mountain Country Club and
was a former employee of
Woodbridge Country Club.
He was a member of Calvary
Baptist Church and a graduate of
Burns High School, Gardner-Webb
College and Gaston College. He
was a member of Gardner-Webb
and Gaston College Golf Team.
Surviving, in addition to his
mother, are two sisters, Sandra
Champion of the home and Mary
Dilling of Kings Mountain; and a
niece, Marylee Hoyle Dilling of
Kings Mountain.
The funeral was conducted June
7, 1991 at Beulah United
Methodist Church by Rev. Fred
Mauney. Burial was in the church
cemetery.

HELEN P. VAUGHAN
Helen Payseur Vaughan, 65, of
14-A Battleforest Apartments, died
June 11, 1991 at Kings Mountain
Hospital.
A native of Kings Mountain, she
was daughter of the late Dorus
Clay and Myrtle Smith Payseur.
She was widow of Charles William
Vaughan Sr. She was a retired tex-
tile employee. .
Surviving are one son, Charles
William Vaughan Jr. of Kings
Mountain; one brother, D.C.
Payseur of Kings Mountain; two
sisters, Mrs. Bill McGinnis and
Mrs. Furman Wilson, both of
Kings Mountain,
The funeral will be conducted
June 13, 1991 at 2 p.m. at Grace
United Methodist Church of which
she was a member. Rev. Frank
Gordon will officiate. Burial will
be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
GENETTA WYLIE
Genetta May Wylie, 79, of 111
Concept Road, died June 9, 1991 at
home.
A native of York County, S.C.
she was daughter of the late Gus
and Martha Turner Wilson and
widow of Tommy Wylie.
Surviving are four sons, Walter
Kenan and Thomas Franklin
Wylie, both of Kings Mountain,
Lawrence Davis Wylie of Grover
and George John Henry Wylie of
Blacksburg, S.C.; five daughters,

Brittany Danielle Bridges, infant
daughter of Timothy and Lynn
Byrd Bridges, died June 4, 1991 at =
Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital.
Surviving, in addition to the
parents, are her sister, Brandy
Bridges, of the home; and grand-
parents, Mrs. Mary Lou Mauney of
Kings Mountain and Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Byrd of Lincolnton.
The graveside service was con-
ducted June 6, 1991 at 4 p.m. at
Shady Grove Baptist Church

Virginia Owen Hamrick, 75, of 452
* Audubon Circle, died June 4, 1991.
A native of Columbia, S.C., she
was a former resident of Kings
Mountain and was a retired cake
decorator. She was Lutheran.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs. Barbara F. Breden of
Belvedere, Mrs. Marian Canipe of
Charlotte and Mrs. Gaye Allen of
Miami, Fla.
Interment was in Kings
Mountain's Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
EVA S. BOLIN
CHERRYVILLE-Eva Sellers
Bolin, 81, of 118 Victoria Road,
died June 10, 1991 at Cherry Oaks
Nursing Home.
A native of Cleveland County,
she was the daughter of the late
William B. and Roxanna Blanton
Sellers and was widow of Rush
Bolin, She was a retired textile em-
ployee and a member of Second
Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Norman
Bolin of Charlotte and Eural Bolin
of Cherryville; three sisters, Mrs.
Alice Eubanks, Mrs. Essie Bennett
and Mrs. Vera Bridges, all of Kings
Mountain; nine grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted June
12, 1991 at 11 a.m. at Harris
Chapel. Rev. Gene Land and Rev.
James Williams officiated, and
burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.
