MAJOR LEAGUE CHAMPS - The Eaton Reds won the Kings Mountain Dixie Youth Major League championship this summer with a perfect 16-0 record. Front row, Ricky Southard, Jeremy Regan, Jonathan Mertz, Hunter Suber, Carey Caldwell, Allyson Ellis. Second row, Wesley Bridges, Chris Surratt, Tripp Roark, Brad Leonard, Andy Ross and Jonah Ingle. Back row, coaches Roger Ross, Bill Bridges, Jerry Regan and Bob Suber. Baseball tournaments set Several Kings Mountain Dixie Youth all-star teams will be in- volved in District 3 playoffs this week. The 13-14 year old all-stars will host the district tournament begin- ning Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Middle School field. KM, Gastonia and Bessemer City will battle for the right to play in the state tourna- ment beginning July 27 in Whiteville. Games will be played Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Middle School and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church Field. It's possible a game will be played on Wednesday. The Kings Mountain team in- cludes 10 players who played dur- ing the regular season for the un- beaten (14-0) Pioneer team and six players from Jones Intercable. Team members are Brian LeFevers, Bryan Leftwich, Travis Queen, Kevin Melton, Sidney Bridges, Chris Hutchins, Duane Patterson, Sharee Hopper, Jeremy Oliver, Kenny Bridges, Nathan Champion, Michael Bell, Dean Clark, Shannon Marr, Kevin Webb Hot Rod La Mance wins Gaffney race GAFFNEY, SC - Hot Rod LaMance of Six Mile and Union's Billy Scott took wins in twin Super Late Model features during the running of the 3rd annual Firecracker Classic at Cherokee Speedway Saturday night in front of the largest spectator turnout of the year. Mark Midgette leads bowling league Mark Midgette swept four games from John Dilling to open a two-game lead in Mixed Duckpin Bowling League action Tuesday night at Dilling Heating. Midgette now has a 15-9 record, followed by Allen Myers 13-11, Robert Hullender 12-12 and John Dilling 8-16. Bobby Rathbone bowled a 115 MINOR LEAGUE ALL- line and 344 set and Midgette added a 120-330 to lead Tuesday's win over Dilling. John Dilling led his group with a 141 line and 363 set. R.W. Hullender rolled a 117 line and 326 set to lead his team over Myers. Debbie Hullender led the losers with a 102-271. -stars will compete in the district and Rick Stimson. Coaches are Phil Smith, Bill Bridges and John Queen. The KM all-stars finished sec- ond in the state when they were 10 years old and won the state and fin- ished fifth in the nation as 12 year olds. sdokok Kings Mountain's 9-10 year olds will compete in the District Minor League Tournament beginning Thursday at Dallas. The tourna- ment continues through next Wednesday. Kings Mountain will face Stanley in the opening game at 6 p.m. West Lincoln will battle Bessemer City at 8. The opening round continues Friday with Boger City facing Tryon and East Lincoln hosting Dallas. The KM-Stanley winner will play the WL-BC winner Saturday at 4 p.m. The losers of those two games will play Saturday at 12 noon.
