He chaired the Carolinas District Kiwanis Key Club committee which worked with key club orga- nizations at high schools in both North and South Carolina and was , district representative for Special Needs Association for the state. A graduate of Kings Mountain High School, he attended Duke University and Westminister Choir College, Princeton, N. J. and earned his teaching certificate after completing extension courses with N. C. State University. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Peeler Sr., the Kings Mountain native worked in the family- owned and operated lumber business, Elmer Lumber - Company, from 1944-74 and was the firm's secretary-treasurer. In ~ 1974 he joined KM District Schools and retired in 1990. He was the Kings Mountain Jaycees' first "Young Man of the Year" and is also a past president of Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club and Kings Mountain Little Theater. He has been a featured baritone soloist for church, civic, and theater programs over the years and sings in the choir of Central United Methodist . Church, of which he is an active Sy member and former chairman of the official board. A Kings Mountain native, King is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis King of Kings Mountain. A gradu- ate of Kings Mountain High School and Gaston College, he has worked for Southern Bell's market- ing department in Charlotte 23 years and served six years in the Air National Guard. He was among the first graduates of the Cleveland County leadership course for offi- cials and has attended local, state and regional school board meetings and received a certificate of excel- lence from the Association for Boardsmanship., He is married to Linda Pearson King and they are parents of two sons, Billy Jr., 19, a student at East Carolina University, and Brian, 11, a 7th grader at Kings Mountain Middle School. The fam- ily is active in First Baptist Church. King acknowledged that he had been considering running for the office of mayor but said he wanted to see the completion of school programs of which he has been ac- tive and decided to seek a second term on the school board. Filing deadline is Friday noon for the two inside-city seats up for grabs in the fall election. Mrs. Shearra Miller, of 403 W. Mountain St., filed last week. Terms of King and member Doyle Campbell are expiring this year. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ocie Moore Allen. She was a bookkeeper and member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Coley of Wilmington and Frances Malcom of Hudson, Fla. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Sharon United Methodist Church cemetery in Shelby. MARGARET BRIDGES Margaret Lee Bridges, 92, of 1012 Linwood Road, Kings Mountain, died July 29, 1991 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Osborne and Roxanna Hamrick Lee. She was a retired textile worker and a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by two daugh- ters, Helen McKee and Virginia Bridges, both of Kings Mountain; one grandson; and two great- granddaughters. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Morris Jordon and Dr. Joel Jenkins Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. HAROLD BIDDIX LAKE BUTLER, Fla. - Harold died Lee’ ‘Biddix = Sr... 67, Wednesday afternoon at his place of business from injurics received in a robbery of his bar. A native of Kings Mountain, Butler owned and operated Harold's Bar. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and also served sev- eral years in the U.S. Army. He and his family lived in Jacksonville for many years where he operated a barber shop. He moved to Lake Butler 10 years ago. He was a Baptist and a member of V.E.W. Post 10082 in Lake Butler. He is survived by his wife, C. Joyce Biddix of Lake Butler; one son, Harold L. Biddix Jr. of the New River Section of Bradford . County; two daughters, Be Be Hart and Ann Biddix of Lake Butler; a brother, Richard Biddix of Ocean Springs, Miss.; a sister, Alene Timmons of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and three grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Archer Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Butler. Burial, with full military services, was at Dekle Cemetery.
