Arrowood, 73, of 103 Arrowood Drive, died September 19, 1991 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, Ga. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Fate and Zanic Nance Arrowood and was married to Margaret Pressley Arrowood. He was a retired Kings Mountain Post Office employee and a past Chief of the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and Bethware Progressive Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War IL Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his stepmother, Mrs. Madge Arrowood of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Mrs. Pamela Carmichael of Lincolnton, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Camp of Grover and Mrs. Jay Barnette of Kings Mountain; one half-sister, Lana Arrowood of Kings Mountain; and one grandchild. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Rev. Harold Beam and Rev. Russell Fitts officiated. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. JAMES T. GRANT James Thomas "Red" Grant, 56, of Route 6 Box 170, died September 20, 1991 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was husband of Lucy Elizabeth Ellison Grant and son of the late Jasper James and Josie Margaret Grant. A crane operator for Maple Leaf Steel Crane, he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Harvey Dale Grant of Kings Mountain and Donald Lewis Grant of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth Gail Merique of Sterling Height, Michigan; Margaret Ruth Dority and Debra Elaine Blanton of Kings Mountain; two brothers, John David Grant of Kings Mountain and George Edmond Grant of Shelby; five sisters, Elizabeth Grant and Lallage Brooks, both of Shelby, Gladys Wright and Edith Causby, both of Kings Mountain, and Peggy Thomas of Jamestown, Ohio; and nine grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Ron Caulder and Rev. Jim Harris officiated. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby. BURTON CLEVELAND - Ethel Manning Burton, 85, of 925 Bear Poplar Rd., died September 19, 1991 at home. A native of Rutherford County, she was formerly of Gastonia and retired from Globe Plant, Burlington Industries, in Mount Holly. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. She was widow of Odell H. Burton and daughter of the late James Andrew and Laura Carver Manning. Surviving are two daughters, Jewel Burns of Cleveland and Peggy Human of Cramerton; one sister, Ann Carswell of Morganton; nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rowan County, P. P. C., she was widow of Millard Caldwell and daughter of the late William Baxter and Mary Ellen Martin Horne. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a retired textile employee. Battleground Ave., di%g September 21, 1991. A native of Kings Mountain, she was widow of David Luther Hannah Sr. and daughter of Anna Fletcher Terry of Kings Mountain and the late Charles W. Terry. She was a retired textile employee. Surviving, in addition to her mother, arc four sons, Clayton Hannah and Jeff Hannah, both of Kings Mountain, Bill Hannah of Charleston, S.C. and David Hannah of Carolina Beach; one daughter, Bonnie Annalee Hannah of Kings Mountain; one brother, Charles Amos Terry of Kings Mountain; one sister, Gladys Strange of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Eugene Land officiat- ed. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. BUD BARNETTE STATESVILLE - Grover Cleveland "Bud" Barnette, 67, of 354 N. Kelly St., died at 3:30 p.m. September 22, 1991 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. A native of Bessemer City, he was son of Pearl Styers Barnette of Statesville and the late Coy Thomas Barnette and was married to Katie Lee Bingham Barnette April 24, 1941. He was Baptist and a retired box machine operator for Gilson Brothers & Stimpson Hosiery. He served in the Pacific Theater in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He attended Kings Mountain and Chester, S.C. schools. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are three sons, Grover Kenneth Barnette of Belmont, Thomas Glenn Barnette of Statesville and Richard William Barnette of Kings Mountain; four daughters, Mrs. Jeanne Louise Britt of Ray City, Ga., Pearl Leona Barnette and Marion Lee Hepler of Statesville and Deborah Ann Bryan of Richland; and two brothers, Thomas Warren Barnette and Eugene A. Barnette; 12 grandchil- dren and two great-grandchildren. Onc sister, Pearl Leona Barnette, preceded him in death. The funcral was conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Nicholson Funcral Home Chapel in Statesville. Burial was in Kings Mountain's Mountain Rest Cemetery. DARR SHELBY - David William Darr, 62, of 210 Hillside Drive, dicd September 19, 1991 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Winston-Salem he was the son of the late Edward Austin and Ruth Ely Darr and was married to Mary Jane Noblitt Darr, who survives. He was district su- pervisor for the North Carolina Department of Labor, OSHA Division, and was a member of First Baptist Church. A 1948 graduate of Woodbury Forrest School, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1952. He was a member of Shelby Masonic Lodge 744, a Shriner, a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, where he re- ceived the 1989 Safety Professional of the Year award from the Tar Heel Chapter. He was chairman of Forsyth County Commissioners from 1968-72 and was Captain in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five sons, Dale Darr of Clearwater, Fla., David Darr Jr. of San Clemente, Calif., Richard Darr of Gainesville, Fla., Robert Darr of Charlotte, Drew Darr of Winston- Salem and Ed Darr of Sparta; four step-sons, Bill Noblitt and David Noblitt, both of Shelby, Bob Noblitt of Houston, Texas and John Noblitt of Pleasanton, Calif.; one brother, Ed Darr of Sparta; three sisters, Mrs. Debbie Sarti of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Molly Messner of Chambersburg, Pa., and Mrs. Cissy Roth of Elkin; two grandchildren, Jacqueline Darr and Dale Darr Jr., of Clearwater, Fla.,and three step-grandchildren, AMERICAN LEGION SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 9:00 'TIL 1:00 $10.00 COUPLE DANCE TO THE FABULOUS SOUNDS OF ! He attended North Augusta Presbyterian Church and was a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge. Retired from E. I. Dupont at Savannah River Plant, he was an Army veter- an of the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Wilson; one son, Donald P. Wilson Jr. of North Augusta; one daughter, Mary Anne Williams of North Augusta; two sisters, Phyllis Alexander of Charlotte and Sarah Faye Britton of Kings Mountain; and one granddaughter.
