Sunday
Exercise, have fun and defeat
hunger are the objectives of
Sunday's big C. R. O. P. Walk
which kicks-off for a 6.2 miles
route Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at
Central United Methodist Church
parking lot.
KMHS Pep Band will provide
the rousing send off for the walk-
ers, entertainment will be provided
along the route and refreshments
will be served at the rest stops at
First Baptist Church, Good Hope
Presbyterian Church and Kings
Mountain Community Center.
The second annual walk is spon-
sored by the Kings Ministerial
Association and Kings Mountain
Crisis Ministry. Last year walkers
from 10 churches raised $5,220.70
to fight the roat causes of hunger in
Kings Mountain and around the
world. Walkers may pick up infor-
mation about the walk at their local
church or by calling Rev. Charles
Davenport, chairman, at 629-4406
or 629-5252.
Twenty-five percent of the funds
raised stay in Kings Mountain and
will used by the Crisis Ministry to
purchase food and aid in other cri-
sis relief, said Davenport. Seventy-
five percent of the funds will fight
the root causes of hunger around
the world through Church World
Services. Sponsors of walkers may
also designated their 75 percent of
funds to the relief agency of their
denomination,
"Dust off your shoes and join us
on Sunday,” said Davenport, who
said numerous pledges are being
made at the various churches and
the public is welcome to join the
fun.

Superintendent Eddie West chal-
lenges churches everywhere to
wage a person-to-person youth
awareness campaign to help eradi-
cate the social ills of the country.
He made the challenge from the
pulpit of Dixon Presbyterian
Church Sunday where he was guest
speaker.
"We've eradicated measles and
mumps, why not social ills?" asked
" West who said that church people
practicing Christian stewardship by
diligent prayer could solve the
plight of many youth.

Alise, October 20, Cleveland
Memorial Hospital. She weighed
eight pounds, one ounce.

the 350,000 children born in

of today's preschoolers live in
poverty with 15 million kids in
America raised by single females.
He said 20% of all preschoolers
have never been received a polio
vaccine and child abuse has tripled
in the last 10 years. He said that
40% of the shelters today are used
by families, not derelicts and drug
