DuPont is sold Japan's Mitsubishi Kasei Corporation has bought Philips and DuPont Optical's Media Plant in Kings Mountain for an undisclosed amount. Headquartered in Tokyo, Mitsubishi Kasei is Japan's largest integrated chemical company and a producer of optical media. The company's 1990 sales were $9 bil- lion. Tetsuo Komuro, general manag- er of the Information Storage Products Division, said the new owners will continue to improve the Kings Mountain facility and improve the product lines but will integrate the sales channel of the products from Kings Mountain with the U, S. subsidiary, Verbatim Corporation. As a result of the ac- quisition, about 40 marketing and sales employees will be reporting to Verbatim. Corporation in Charlotte but will remain on the lo- cal staff, : Dupont and N. V. Philips of the Netherlands began production of polymer media in 1990 at the new Kings Mountain facility, the largest U.S. production facility for a disc operation. Law suit settled A civil suit was settled Thursday in Gaston Superior Court when Superior Court Judge Zoro Guice signed petitions filed by Everette Ray and Doris Hope Grigg of Kings Mountain and Danny Berry of Bessemer City against a Gaston County police officer. The Griggs are the parents and Berry is the widower of Cindy Grigg Berry who was killed on May 1, 1990 at 12:50 p.m. near her home on Long Creek Church Road in a head-on collision with county police officer Lawrence Hamrick Jr. The Gaston county vehicle, ac- cording to police reports, crossed the center line and collided with the Berry vehicle. The Griggs are co-administrators of the estate of the Berry children, Jonathan and Michael Berry. According to the terms of the set- tlement, Daniel Berry will receive $165,147 and his sons will receive $434,853. in trust. Gaston County will also pay attorney fees which total $200,000. HW Cleveland County Board of Health will meet December 2 at 7:30 a.m, at Shelby High School Library. Randy McDonald and Dianne Sanders will review the ex- panded school health program. HW Porcelain and oil painting classes begin December 4 and end February 26, 1992 at Cleveland Community College. Ada Blankenship will instruct the 33- hour porcelain class on Wednesdays from 9-12 noon in CCC Room 2042. Linda Putnam will instruct the 33-hour oil paint- ing class on Wednesdays from 9-12 noon in CCC Room 2003. Registation is $30. Michael, Ryan Davis celebrate Michael and Ryan Davis, sons of Tim and Vanessa Davis, cele- brated their birthdays together on November 9 with a party at their home. Michael was one November 9 and Ryan was three November 16. Michael and Ryan are the grand- sons of John and Estelle Beam and Lib Davis, all of Kings Mountain. Mrs. Davis is the former Vanessa Beam.
