Page 2A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, December 19 1991 | Obituaries | HAROLD WELLS William Harold Wells, 72, of 125 Stewart Rd., died December 13, 1991 at home, A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Quinn and Macie Byers Wells, He was ~ married to Lucy Ledford Wells, who survives. A retired employee of the State of North Carolina and a retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, he served in World War Hand retired from the USS "Melville. He was a member of Si. Matthew's Lutheran Church and State Line Masonic Lodge. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Steve Wells and Larry Wells, both. of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Rev. Harwood Smith officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Maithew's Lutheran Church, North Piedmont Avenue, Kings Mountain, 28086 or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 201 W. Marion St., Shelby, 28150. . EUNICE W. JACOBS Mrs, Eunice Waldrop Jacobs, 83, + died December 10, 1991 at Kings . Mountain Convalescent Center. i A native of Cleveland County, she was widow of Oscar Glenn Jacobs and daughter of the late W. G. and Emeline Hill Waldrop. She . was a retired employee of Firestone Mills and a church pi- anist for aver 5Q years. She was a member of Firestone Wesleyan Church of Gastonia. Surviving are two sons, David A. Jacobs of Gastonia and Jimmy Jacobs of High Point; three daugh- ters, Myrna Cunningham of Gastonia, Janice Dye of Kings Mountain and Nancy Sheppard of Summerville, 8.C.; four sisters, Ruth Griffie, Gertrude. Strickland and Jean Sisk, all of Gastonia, and Clara Sisk of Ormond Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren, The funeral was conducted December 13 at 3 p.m. at Firestone Wesleyan Church in Gastonia. WILBUR SMITH Wilbur G. "Mutt" Smith, 70, of 810 Monroe Ave., died December 16, 1991 in Lawrenceville, Ga. A native of Greshamville, Ga., he was son of the late James Marvin and Susie Perkins Smith. He was a retired insuranceman for Durham Life Insurance Company. He was a member. of Central United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U. 8. Navy during World War I, Surviving are his wife, Eva C, Smith; two sons, Tom Smith of The Woodland, Texas and David B. Smith of Kings Mountain; two stepsons, Danny Duvall and Tim Duvall, both of Greshamville, Ga.; one daughter, Louzeile Durden of Lilburn, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Lorraine Miller of Greshamville, Ga; five sisters, Lottie O'Kelly of Atlanta, Ga., Bertice Williams of Greshamville, Ga., Bernice Romefelt of Athens, Ga., Glennie Freeman of Greensboro, Ga. and Dap Penick of Augusta, Ga.; eight . grandchildren and five stepgrand- children. * The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Rev, Bob Little officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. EDNA LANIER LENOIR - Mrs. Edna McDaniel Lanier, 88, formerly of Kings Mountain, died December 14, 1991 at 3:45 p.m. at Shire Rest Home. A She was widow of Ivey Lanier and daughter of the late Whitney and Mary Littlejohn McDaniel. She was a retired executive sec- retary for Belk Department Store and a member of First Methodist Church of Charlotte. A number of nieces and nephews survive. The graveside service was con- ducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Kings Mountain's Mountain ~~ Rest Cemetery by Dr. Eric Faust. BRENDA H. PARKER SHELBY - Mrs. Brenda Huffstetler Parker, 48, of 2402-1 Oak Grove Rd., died December 14, 1991 at home. A native of Mount Holly, she was daughter of Bob A. and Katherine Roberts Sherrill of Mount Holly and wife of James R. Parker. She was retired from Copeland Corporation. A member of First Freewill Baptist Church, she was a member of Eastern Star Lodge 100 of Shelby. . Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are one daughter, Mrs. Susan Arnold of Shelby; one brother, Scott Sherrill of York, S.C.; one sister, Debbie “Sherrill of Gastonia; and one grandchild. The graveside service was con- ducted Monday at 4 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park by Rev. Keys Pendleton. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 201 W. AILEEN HERNDON Mrs. Aileen Moore Herndon, 71, of 3040 Shelby Rd., died December 12, 1991 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, she was the wife of Harold Herndon, who survives, She was daughter of the late Thomas L. and Fannie Bell Moore and a retired employee of Southern Bell. GRANTHAM GREENSBORO - William Gurney Grantham, 89, of 925 New Garden Rd., former resident of Kings Mountain, died December 11, 1991 at Moses Cone Hospital. A native of Guilford County, he was owner and operator of Victory Chevrolet Company in Kings Mountain for more than 20 years and was a former Kings Mountain city council member who also served as Mayor pro tem. He was a member of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club, Shrine Club, Masonic Order and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in West Jefferson. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Harding Grantham; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Kaufman and Mrs. Bobbi Jackson, Greensboro; and one brother, "David W. Grantham, all of Greensboro; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Wagner of Raleigh and Martha J. Jones of Tallahassee, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. COLEMAN E, WRIGHT Coleman Edward Wright, 71, of Larch Lane, died December 18, 1991 at home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Earnest and Junie Dellinger Wright and was married to Thelma Wright Wright. He was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Edward Wright of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Jo Ann Carroll of Spartanburg, = — = DOWNTOWN KINGS MOUNTAIN S.C. and Judy Wiggins of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Esper Wright of Bessemer City and Sherman Wright of Kings Mountain; one sister, Mrs. Fannic Cobb of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren. The funcral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Harris Chapel by Rev. Norris Willis. Burial will be in Allen Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
