Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln Counties Good News Area News of Churches and Related Christian Events VOL. 1 NO. 2 WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29, 1992 REPUBLIC NEWSPAPERS Tell us your Good News The Good News is the lat- est addition to the five Republic weekly newspa- pers which include the Kings Mountain Herald, the Cherryville Eagle, the Mount Holly News, the Belmont Banner and the Bessemer City Record. The design that became a tabloid size newspaper January 21, will feature Christian events and activi- ties of all kinds including rallies, singings, revivals, seminars, outings, out- reaches, community pro- grams and anything else that is provided to further the name of Jesus Christ and promote good will (and better communication) among His followers. For the first time, there will be a format designed to accommodate everything from the little event to the large ones - all publicized at no charge to the churches involved. Good News is geared specifically toward just that - we want to hear about those persons that are ac- tive leaders and teachers within various churches and religious organizations that are actively helping others. We would like to see these special folks given the opportunity to share the programs and outreach ac- tivities that they have found to be the most suc- cessful with others that are growing and searching for the best activities for their respective congregations. 'Mostly Smiles’ to meet Hospice of Cleveland County announces that the children's bereavement group "Mostly Smiles," will meet ev- ery Wednesday afternoon in February in the Hospice con- ference room in the Marion Singles meeting set Second Baptist Church of Kings Mountain will hold its monthly Single's meet- ing on Iebruary 15 at the fellowship hall located at 120 Linwood Road in Kings Mountain. Rev. Eugene Land of Second Baptist has directed the interdenomina- tional out reach for eight years. For further informa- tion call (704) 739-4216. Mall. The group will meet from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and will consist of discussions, art- work, storytelling, and various other techniques to help chil- dren express and deal with their grief. In remembering a loved one, the sense of loss of- ten generates feelings of pain, loneliness, and sadness, but through bereavement support, the remembrance of a loved one can bring "Mostly Smiles." The group is open to chil- dren from all past Hospice families and also to the gener- al public for grades K through 7. Call the Hospice office 487- 4677 for any additional infor- mation regarding this service or to request transportation. Patti McMurry, social worker, and Keys Pendleton, chaplain will conduct the group. The Good News will fea- ture timely information on what is happening as well as providing a simple means of open communica- tions between churches throughout our tri-county area. We welcome all club meetings and activity infor- mation, feature ideas on teens, young adults, busi- ness people, seniors and or- ganizations. We encourage you to "pass the word" when a school or civic orga- nization takes an interest in accommodating the Christian community in any area that will aid in providing more Christian services to more people. We are always interested in featuring charities and in- dividuals that are going the DR. CLYDE DUPIN extra mile to help someone else, and to incorporate into wr pages of news of those special organizations that provide an outreach ‘to those with special needs - singles, single parents, youth, homebound, disabled - as well as those that are organizing various activi- ties and outreaches that are open to new members. We welcome any and all information of Christian - oriented activities and events and encourage you to let us know about any news worthy events so that we can better accommodate them and incorporate them into the article and feature portions of Good News. History tells us that both these great statesmen and American heros were men who not only read the Bible but they often prayed. It has been encouraging to see our recent presidents speaking about their Christian faith and calling the nation to prayer. America has a great Christian heritage. It has given our people courage in time of great peril. It has been our source of hope when our people have gone to war. One year ago in the midst of Desert Storm, many people prayed and church attendance rose to its highest in twenty five years. Our challenge in 1922 should be to return to the faith of our Fathers. is actually being sponsored by those businesses you find advertising herein. One man, George Washington, was the Father of our country and Abraham Lincoln was the Savior of the union. Both of these men read the Bible and used it in their daily lives.
