First Baptist to study Isaiah
First Baptist Church of
Stanley will be offering a Bible
study in the book of Isaiah,
lead by Pastor Charles H.
High, Sr. Studies will be held
each Sunday evening between:
6:00 and 6:50 pm. There will
be classes available for all age

Mercy sisters
study vocation
BELMONT-The Sisters of
Mercy of the North Carolina
region, based at Sacred Heart
Convent, were among 32 com-
munities involved in a pilot
program for vocation ministry
and recruitment.

Washington Theological Union
sponsored the program funded
by the Lilly Endowment.
Participants renewed their
- conviction regarding the need
for the religious in today's
world.
Some of the factors that in-
hibit individuals from consid-
ering religious life include re-
sistance to permanent
commitment; vows of celibacy,
obedience and poverty; and
lack of understanding of
Catholic teachings and tradi-
tions.
However, participants noted
their beliefs that God contin-
ues to call men and women to
religious life; that people
hunger for the witness of a
way of life that transcends the
present; and that those in the
religious life bring gifts to a
world needing the impact and
power of the mission and min-
istry of Jesus Christ.
Benefit Singing
At 7 p.m. singing Feb. 8 at
New Life Baptist Church, 49
James St., Gastonia, will ben-
efit the Rev. Bob Wells, a dou-
ble amputee. Proceeds will be
used to purchase two artificial
limbs.
Bible Studies
Covenant Bible Church of
Lincolnton is hosting cot-
tage Bible studies twice

Dinner and Doings
New Hope Presbyterian
Church, Gastonia has sched-
uled a "Dinner and Doings"
