Washington Blvd., died February 2, 1992 at her home. A native of Bessemer City, she was a former Kings Mountain resi- dent and was retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was widow of Allen P. Robey and a member of Cherrydale Methodist Church in Arlington,Va. and of the Order of Eastern Star. She was daughter of the late Emmett and Bernie Mae DavisDover. Surviving are her stepmother, Maybelle Dover of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Karen Davis of Gaffney, S.C.; two step- sons, Gene Robey of Leesburg,Va. and Robert Robey of Arlington; one sister, Phyllis Carrigan of Kings Creek, S.C.; two brothers, Mitchell Dover of Kings Mountain and Willis Dover of Blacksburg, S.C.; and two grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Blacksburg, S.C. Rev. Grady Gregory will officiate. JESSIE JONAS Jessie Jonas, 82, of 802 Jackson St., died February 3, 1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Lee and Rosa White Jonas. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Surviving are four brothers, Marion Jonas of York, S.C., D. L. Jonas Jr. of Lexington, William Jonas of Rockwell and James Jonas of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Loraine Jonas and Mrs. Louise Lynn, both of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Elizabeth Shillinglaw of Sharon, S.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. Patsy Stone officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at York, S.C. MATILDA CHAMPION SHELBY - Matilda Pritchard Champion, 74, of 1016 Hardin Drive, died January 31,1992 at Clzvetand Memorial Hospital. ? I) daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Pritchard. She was a retired employee of the Shelby City Schools Cafeteria and a member of Eastside Baptist Church and Cleveland Cloth Mill Woman's Club. Surviving are two sons, Vance Champion Jr. of Clearwater, Fla. and Richard Champion of Pineville; two daughters, Rebecca Southards of Shelby and Linda Harnage of Easley, S.C.; one sister, Naomi Ledford of Lawndale; six grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church by Dr. Harold Fite. ANNIE S. GIST Annie Steen Gist, 85, Apt. 422 Tate Terrace, died February 1, 1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Union County, S. C., she was daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Steen and widow of Silas Gist Sr. She was a member of St. Peter's Missionary Baptist ~ Church Briefs Lig Church in Grover, where she was the oldest member of the church and a member of the senior mis- sionary group. Survivors include five daugh- ters, Edna Smith of Kings Mountain, Pinkie Ross of Grover, Osley Ross of Winston Salem, and Eloise Gist and Mary Ann Dawkins, both of Shelby; three sons, Fred Gist of Detroit, Henion Gist of Apopka, Fla. and Silas Gist Jr. of Grover; 47 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. William Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in the church ceme- tery. : MRS. W. R. CRAIG Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Wren Craig, 84, of 903 Crescent Circle, died. January 31, 1992 at Countrytime Rest Home. A native of High Point, she was the daughter of the late Junius C. and Margaret Jane Parker Wren and wife of W. R. "Bill" Craig, who survives. She was a retired high school English teacher and a member of Central United Methodist Church and a Sunday School teacher of Daughters of Wesley Class. She was a member of the Home Arts Club. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Margaret Craig Bryant of Atlanta, Ga. and Nancy Craig Ryan of Houston, Texas; one brother, Dr. James C. Wren of Nobleboro, Maine; one sister, June Parker Butler of Eden; and three grand- children. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Rev. Bob Little officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. ROY LEE REYNOLDS Roy Lee Reynolds, 70, of 462 El Bethel Rd., died January 31, 1992 at VA Hospital, Oteen. A native of Cleveland County, he was son of the late Christy S. and Lillie Marie Eaker Reynolds and a retired carpenter. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Surviving are three brothers, Reynolds. The graveside service was con- ducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery by Rev. Russell Fitts and Rev. Todd Reynolds. 2 LOIS H. MURRAY Mrs. Lois Hudson Murray, 77, of 1017 Sherwood Lane, died January 28, 1992 at home. A native of Catawba County, she was daughter of the late Macon and Ruth Bolick Hudson and wid- ow of Boyer Allen Murray. She was a retired nurse at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Col. Reginald A. Murray of Auburn, California and Guy A. Murray of North Augusta, S.C.; one brother, Larry Hudson of Los Angeles, California; one sister, Mable Howard of Maiden; three grand- children and two great-grandchil- dren. Musical concert at St. Paul Church B® A musical concert will be giv- en at the St. Paul United Methodist Church on Saturday at 6 p.m. Various choirs and singing groups of the Kings Mountain area will present an enjoyable evening of music. 8 St. Paul United Methodist Church on Cansler Street is cele- brating their Twelfth Anniversary on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the church. The speaker for the occasion will be Dr. T.A. Powell, pastor of the Burge Memorial and Rock Hill Methodist Churches. Special music will be given by the guest churches. The family has requested memo- rials to Central United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, 28086. MILLARD PUTNAM Millard Putnam, 81, of 221 Patterson Rd., died February 1, 1992 at home. A native of Cleveland County, he was husband of Hester Chapman Putnam, who survives, and son of the late Jessie H. and Mattie Caldwell Putnam. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and a former deacon. He was a member of Shelby Masonic Lodge 202. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is one brother, Odell Putnam of Gastonia. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. MRS. O. W. MYERS MOORESVILLE - Mrs. Lillian Marie Bellotte Myers, 88, former- ly of 4100 Oldfield Road in Charlotte, died Monday at Meridian Nursing Center. A native of Oconee County, S.C., she formerly owned and op- erated the former Department Store in Kings Mountain with her husband, O.W. Myers, who died in 1981. She was daughter of the late Joseph and Etta Frick Bellotte. Surviving are one son, Earle Myers of Denver; one daughter, Eleanor Rhyne of Charlotte; three sisters, Etta Ruth Bellotte of San Francisco, Calif., Ann Watson of Tinafly, N . J. and Mrs. Sarah Sloan of Columbia,S.C.; six grand- children and eight great-grandchil- dren. The graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sharon Memorial Cemetery in Charlotte. Rev. Ben Sloan will offi- ciate. RICHARD HUBBARD Richard Harmon Hubbard, 79, _of 133 Quail Hollow Drive, died February: 1, 1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Prestonburg, Ky. Burial was in Hubbard Family Cemetery, Prestonburg. Myers CORY PHILLIPS Cory Phillips two years old Cory Allen Phillips, son of Lisa Phillips and the late Allen Phillips, celebrated his second birthday on January 30 at the home of his grandparents, Don and Pat Smith of Kings Mountain. A barbecue supper was served with cake and ice cream to 30 guests. Cory is the grandson of Jim and Shirley Harry of Gastonia. He is the great-grandson of Ruby Gladden and Eunice Smith, both of Kings Mountain, and Mr. and Mrs. William Youngblood of Florida. Hl A total of 190 people from Kings Mountain have received ex- tended benefit checks from the Employment Security Commission - §- since December 4, among more than 3.1 million people nationwide who exhausted their unemploy- ment benefits since March 1, 1991. Debate is currently underway in the Congress to extend the program into the fall. Currently, legislation provides the benefits to stop June 13. Bm A Valentine social will be held at Kings Mountain Senior Center Saturday night a 7:30. Prizes will be presented to the best dressed Valentine couple.
