C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Frank and Tallulah Gaffney Whelchel. She was widow of Ben F. Blanton and a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. She was retired lunchroom manag- er at Central School. Surviving are one son, Benny Blanton of Gaffney; one daughter, Jackie Blanton of Kings Mountain; and one brother, Thomas Frank Whelchel Jr. of Wilmington. The graveside service was con- ducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Phillip Whelchel, Rev. Stuart Kersey and Rev. Monroe Ashley officiated. GERTIE MAE MOSS Gertie Mae Byers Moss, 86, of South Haven Long Term Care Center, Gastonia, died February 16, 1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, she was the widow of Dewey Moss and daughter of the late Spain and Sarah Pritchard Byers. She was a - member of the Church of God. Surviving are one son, James Harrison of Chester, S. C.; one daughter, Clara Burnette of Dallas; seven grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Gaither Summitt offi: ciated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. ESTELLE M. COOPER Estelle Tommy Mabry Cooper, 80, of 3044 Shelby Road, died February 13, 1992 in Gaston Memorial Hospital. A mative of Norwood, she was daughter of the late Merit and Irene Mabry and widow of Herman I. Cooper. She was retired from Firestone Mill and was a member of First Assembly of God, Gastonia. Survivors are one daughter, Shelby Jean Strickland of Kings Mountain; one brother, Baxter Mabry of Norwood; four grand: children and five great-grandchil- dren. The funeral was conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at First Assembly of God by Rev. David Scruggs and Rev. Ralph Dale. Burial was in Gaston Memorial Park. Douglas Houser, 69, of 3246 Pendleton Ave., died February 12, 1992 at Carolinas Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he attended Kings Mountain schools and Kings Business College. He retired in 1987.as.con-- — troller for C.D. Spangler Company of Charlotte after 35 years. He was the son of the late Horace M. and Evangeline Falls Houser of Kings Mountain. He was preceded in death by a . brother, William F. Houser. Surviving are his wife, Bettie Payne Houser; one son, Robert Houser of Atlanta, Ga.; one daugh- ter, Kathy Harrison of Charlotte; one brother, George H. Houser of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Frances Lutz of Waco, Linda Blanton of Shelby and Lois Williams of Charlotte; and two grandchildren. A special thank you comes from our hearts and we love each of Jou The Ramsey Family Plonk Brothers and Company, Inc. was founded in 1819 by John Oates Plonk, Sr. and several other business minded Kings Mountain citizens. In- 1907 Mr. Plonk purchased the interests of his partners. After his death in October of 1951, the store (10 brothers and sisters) with the responsibility falling on John O. Plonk Jr. and William Plonk. In January of 1958 the estate of the was owned and operated by his heirs late J.O. Plonk Sr., which owned 47 percent of the stock bought the interests of the other owners. The firm was incorporated in 1959-and ~~ expanded to take the adjoining building. The additional floor space was used to display household items and piece goods. The store was managed by the late Paul Wessley Walker until 1958. Today the store is operated by Carl Neisler Plonk and owned by John O. Plonk, Jr. and Carl Plonk. In 1988 Plonk Brothers was expanded again _by the addition of a shoe store placed “in the corner ‘building.
