Takes swat for KM softball team
Unbeaten North Gaston
beats KM ladies by 9-5
Kings Mountain High's girls
softball team fell to undefeated
North Gaston 9-5 in Southwestern
3-A Conference action last week.
Keisha Wilson led the KM at-
tack with 2-for-3 and two runs bat-
ted in. Tameeka Anderson, Tandra
Leftwich, Jennifer Carroll and
Courtney Goforth added one hit
apiece.
"Holly Hollifield, a freshman,
pitched a good game and we
played petty good on defense,’
Coach Tony Leigh said. "North
Gaston just came through with key
hits at the right time."
The KM ladies were scheduled
to face Crest in a non-conference
game yesterday. They host South
Point Thursday at 4:30 in the first
game of the second round of con-
ference action.
Kings Mountain will compete in
the West Lincoln Invitational
Tournament next Thursday, Friday
and Saturday.
Midgette making his move
Mark Midgette appears to be
making a move toward the top in
Tuesday Night Mixed Duckpin
Bowling League action at Dilling
Heating.
Midgette swept second place
Johnny Dye Tuesday night to take
over second place, seven games
behind league-leading John Dilling
who swept four games from R.W.
Hullender.
Dilling now sports a 31-17
Duckpins knock
The Rednecks appear to be run-
ning away with the second half ti-
tle in the Thursday Night Mixed
Duckpin Bowling League race, but
the second place Tailenders and
third place Duckpins made up a lit-
tle ground last week when the
Duckpins won three games from
the leaders.
The Rednecks now sport a 38-18
record, followed by the Tailenders
27-29, Duckpins 26-30 and Spades
22-34.
Three bowlers topped the 300
set mark to lead the Duckpins over
the Rednecks. Bob Rathbone rolled
Men's church
A tourney planned
A men's church softball tourna-
ment will be held May 1-2 at
Lattimore Baptist Church.
Entry fee is $60 per team. Teams
must furnish their own softballs
and it must be a .047 ball. The
deadline for entering is April 26.
The first 12 teams will be ac-
cepted.

Tennis Association to begin play Monday
The Kings Mountain Tennis
Association will begin play
Monday night at the Kings
Mountain High School courts.
A meeting of all lcague mem-
bers is scheduled at 6 p.m., and
play will begin afterward.
Members who have already paid
their dues will receive KMTA t-
shirts, and new members are also
invited. A $20 fee entitles the new
members to full membership bene-
fits and a KMTA t-shirt.

Several Kings Mountain young-
sters performed well in the State
Freestyle Wrestling Tournament
Saturday at Gardner-Webb
College. :
In the kids division (for young-
sters born in 1984 and '85), Tyler
McDaniel finished first in the 80-
pound class and Brandon Bridges
was fourth in the 40-pound divi-
sion.
In the bantom division (for
youngsters with birth dates in 1986
and '87), Brian Senter was first in
80 pounds, Josh McDaniel second
in 90 pounds, Matt Bridges second
in 60 pounds, and Jason Bridges
third in 60 pounds.
Middle School
wins in golf
Kings Mountain Middle School's
golfers tied Crest for first place in a
three-team match with Burns
Monday at Pine Grove Golf
Course.
Kings Mountain and Crest shot
177 and Burns shot a 201.
Kings Mountain's Sage Fulton
was medalist with a three-over-par
39. Other KM scores were Casey
Sipe 44, Nathan Mayse 45, Chris
Foster 49, Jeremy Sheppard 53,
and Paul Johnsonbaugh 55.
Kings Mountain, which has won
two matches and tied one, will host
Crest and Burns in its final match
April 27 at Kings Mountain
Country Club.
Cow pasture
bingo planned
The Kings Mountain: High
Booster's Club is sponsoring cow
pasture bingo June 6 at 5 p.m. at
John Gamble Stadium.
For a $2 donation, you can get a
chance to win $300. All proceeds
will go to the booster's club.
Several organizations, including
the girls basketball and volleyball
teams, the wrestling team and
Booster's Club are selling tickets.
Tickets are also being sold at
KMHS ball games and tickets may
be obtained by calling the high
school at 734-KMHS.

Kings Mountain High's golfers
won their first match of the season
Thursday at Kings Mountain
Country Club. The Mountaineers
shot a 348 to defeat East
Rutherford (351) and North Gaston
(358) in a Southwestern 3-A
Conference match.
Matt Heavner led the
Mountaineers with an 81, followed
by Michael Bridges 85, Brian
Cook 90 and Blair Williams 92.
Medalist was Matt Clement of
East Rutherford with a 79.
Kings Mountain, Shelby, Burns
and Crest will compete in the first
Cleveland County Tournament

There is limited enrollment. Call for
registration. The class will last for six
weeks and the fee is $20.
B Oil painting class - A Bob Ross
oil painting class will be held the sec-
ond Saturday of each month. The fee is
$30 for each Saturday class. The in-
structor will have supplies available to
buy or rent. After each class, each stu-
dent will leave with a finished product.

B Youth and adult tennis lessons - A
new spring program of group tennis in-
struction for beginner and advanced
beginners will begin April 28. Adult
classes will be held on Tuesday and
" Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m.
Youth classes will be held on Tuesday
and Thursday afternoons from 4-6 p.m.
Classes will be held at the tennis courts
at Deal Street Park and will run for two
weeks. Instructor will be Bill Naylor.
The department will handle all regis-
tration at the Community Center. Fee is
will vary depending on the class, but
generally will range from $18 for
youth to $23 for adults.
BW 13-14 year old baseball - Dixie
Boys baseball registration for ages 13-
14 years old will be held April 21-May
1 at the Community Center. Birth cer-
tificates are required. There is a regis-
tration fee.

HM Preschool tumbling - A preschool
tumbling class for ages 3-6 will be held
Monday, Wednesday and Friday mom-
ings from 8:45-9:45. The fee is $10 for
inside city residents and $15 for out-
side city residents. Mothers may take
an aerobics class at the same time.
