From Page 3 Seminars St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Rd., Charlotte, will offer at five week series, Exploring Feelings and Emotions in Christian Living, on Monday evenings beginning April 27 and ending May 25 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The series is designed to provide a reflection on Sister Mary Michael O'Shaughnessy's book by the same title. We will ex- amine the role of joy, grief, anger and fear in the lives of Christians. Principles of psychology and scriptural theology will serve as the basis for providing strate- gies for understanding and managing these emotions in positive and healthy ways. % Donna Marie Vaillancourt, RSM, will serve as program leader. Sister Donna Marie holds a B.A. degree in psychology from Sacred Heart College and an M.A. degree in the- ology from St. Bonaventure University. She presently serves as co-director of Mercy Institute, conducting programs in psycho-spiritu- al growth. Yard Sale May 9 May 9 the Mission » Committee of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville will sponsor a yard sale at the church. All - proceeds will go for Habitat and Helper Project International. Romine to speak Dannye Romine, book editor for The Charlotte Observer, will be the fea- tured guest for a special oy reading of her work May 3 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 315 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton. Her poems have ap- peared in Prairie Schooner, Shenandoah, Gettysburg Review and The Paris Review. She has been at the Observer for almost 17 years. Romine majored in English at Florida State. A reception will follow the reading in the parish house, one block off East Main St. Wednesdays The Outreach Committee of the Session along with Christian Education and Youth Committees of First Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain will spon- sor every 4th Wednesday at 6 p.m. Wednesday Night at the Church for all adults. A $1 supper will be served. April 29 bible study will be led by Frances Goforth af- ter supper. The subject will be Jesus’ parables. Day, of Prayer The National Day of Prayer on May 7 from 12:20 to 12:40 p.m. will be ob- served at Kings Mountain Government Center. This prayer effort calls on God for a moral rebirth in America. The service is a cooperative venture and en- dorsed by the Kings Mountain Ministerial Association. Parent Group - A seminar on parenting will be held at East Belmont Baptist Church on May 7 at 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Friendship Hall. Guest speaker will be Opal Parks, who will speak on "Successful Parenting of the School-age Child." Parks has taught 15 years in Gaston County, served four years as found- ing member of the Board of Trustees . of Gaston Christian Schools, Inc., and served as principal/admin- istrator of that school for the past nine years. Bible School Vacation Bible School at First Presbyterian in Kings Mountain is set for July 13- 17. It will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church. The coordinator is Laura McGill. Volunteers are needed. Spring retreat Kings Mountain's Boyce Memorial ARP Church ju- nior highs will travel to Bonclarken May 1-2 for a Spring Retreat. The theme will be "Surviving the Teenage Years." The speak- ers are Rev. John Dorr and Rev. Barry Dagenhart. Phillip Reavis is in charge of the music. Celebration A Celebration of Missions will be sponsored by the WNCC Commission on Children, Youth and Young Adults and the Commission on Mission/Outreach on Saturday, May 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist in High Point. During this event chil- dren (ages 3 to 6th grade) will learn about missions projects. Booths and dis- plays will be on hand. Adults will participate in workshops. The registration and meals for children is $3 and adults $4 with free nursery care. Registration deadline is April 15. Contact Kim Billings at 392-8686. Memory Banquet There will be a Mother/Daughter/Member/ Guest banquet "Evening of Memories" on Monday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. $5 for adults and $2.50 for chil- dren under 12. Call church office for reservations by April 22. Work wanted Acteens at David Baptist Church in Kings Mountain are trying to raise money for a summer trip.
