Battleground Ave., died April 28, 1992 at Kings Mountain Convalescent Center. A native of Mecklenburg County, he was a minister for over 60 years and Chaplain of Kings Mountain Hospital for 11 years. He was married to Pearl Moss Horne, who survives. His first wife was the late Laney Moss Horne. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Paul Horne Jr. of Franklin, Indiana; two stepsons, Sonny Moss of Augusta, Ga. and Jack Moss of Kings Mountain; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ruby Alexander of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Buddy Horne of Bessemer City and Joel Horne of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Salem of Charlotte .and Mrs. Frances Pepper of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grand- children. : The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist - Church. Dr. John Sloan, Rev. Reggie Alexander, and Rev. Blanchard Horne will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Charlotte. MRS. BLANCHE BIVINS LAWNDALE - Mrs. Blanche Williams Bivins, 76, of 107 Power House Rd., died April 28, 1992 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby. ‘She was daughter of the late Gordon William and Cassie Cook Williams. She was widow of Veles P. Bivins. She was retired from Doran Textiles and had previously worked at Cleveland Mills in Lawndale for 30 years. She was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church where she served in the nursery department for 25 years. She was preceded in death by one _son Darrell Bivins, and one sister Zelda Guth. ~~ Surviving are five sons; Glenn. Bivins, Kenneth Bivins, Thomas Bivins, all _ of Lawndale, Dale ‘Bivins of Gastonia, and Randy wa Blvins 2 Shelby; two daughters, TMs, Mrs. Yoan Smith of Fallston; one brother, Delbert Williams of Mooresville; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 201 West Marion St., Shelby, 28150, or Baptist Church, ALBERT NEGUS JR. \ Albert Edward Negus Jr, 57, of 4A Battle Forest Apartments, died April 21,1992 at St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A native of Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, he was husband of Trudy Camp Negus, who survives. He was son of the late Albert Edward. and Margaret Harmon Negus. He was a disabled veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps in World War II. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Michael E. Negus of-Cherryvill€ and Marty SRE, 2 BUS - Negus of Kings*Mountain; one stepson, Marty Rushing of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Margaret Ann Negus of Cherryville; one brother, Donnie Negus — -Engert of Houston, Texas and Wreath B. Leonard of Austin, Texas; and one grandchild. ~The funeral was conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel. Dr. John W. Sloan officiated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. REV. C.B. BOBBITT STATESVILLE - Rev. Clarence Benjamin Bobbitt, 84, of Route 14, Box 535, died April 24, 1992 in Iredell Memorial Hospital after ex- tended illness. A native of Kings Mountain, he was married for 60 years to Edna Blanton Bobbitt. He was son of the late Hosea Lee and Mary Parrish Bobbitt. During 48 years as an ordained minister he had served nine churches in North Carolina along with a number of interim pastorates since his retirement in 1973. He served as pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church in the Kings Mountain Association, Mount Vernon Baptist Church in the South Mountain Association, Rhodhiss Baptist Church, Olivet Baptist Church of Long Island in the South Fork Association, Corinth Baptist Church and Mt. Olivet Church in the Sandy Run Association, Magnolia Street Baptist Church in Stedmon, and Mountain Road inford of Lawndale and- Xia 3 = Mollie Bell Roberts Phillips, of Heuston, Texas; two sisters, Vera - - Baptist Church. He had also serves as interim pastor at Bethel Baptist Church, of which he was a mem- ber. A 1942 graduate of Gardner Webb College, he was president of the Ministerial Band and was cho- sen "Most influential. He also studied at Fruitland Bible Institute and was licensed by Second Baptist Church. He was ordained by Gardner Webb Baptist Church in 1941. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Jack Bobbitt of Bessemer City and one daughter, Shirley B. Lail of Hickory; one son-in-law Ken Lail of Hickory; one daughter-in-law Doris Bobbitt of Bessemer City; four sisters, Mrs. Louise King and Mrs. Ruth Bridges, both of Kings Mountain; and Mrs. Ruby Bridges and Mrs. Wilma Deese, both of Gastonia; four grandchildren, six great- grandchildren and one great-grand- child. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Bobbitt, and three sisters, Josie Barnett, Rena Gault, and Carrie Hord and one grandson, Michael Allen Blackwood. The funeral was conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. David Turner offici- ated. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Robert Ostwalt, Roscoe Eller, Ed Sprinkle, Robert Ostwalt, J. D. Lippard, Carroll Campbell, and Jack Annas. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the church and area ministers. LOUISE JOHNSON Louise McCarter Johnson, 71, of 218 Waco Rd., died April 28,1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of York County, SC, she was daughter of the late John Andy and Lillian Groves McCarter. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church, ~ Surviving are one son, Mike Winders of Clover, SC; two daugh- ters, Joyce Williams of Kings Mountain and Shirley Smith of York, SC; two brothers, Robert McCarter of Smyrna, SC and Ernest McCarter of Jenkins, KY; two sisters, Beulah Lynn of Gastonia and Mary Robinson of Clover; and two grandchitdren. — The funeral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church. Blanton was recognized for their volunteer efforts with the Charlotte Mint Museum at a banquet April 26 and received the top award, the North Carolina Giver Award, ap- propriate recognition for a lady who head up a half dozen organiza- tions., Blanton points with pride to nu- merous success stories among the families she serves. A high school girl living independently is getting — guidance from Blanton and making plans for college. Surviving are one son, James Lawrence Lockhart of Maryland; three grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Friday at 4 pm. at Harris Chapel. Rev. Mitchell Pruitt will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. LATHAM WILSON LAWNDALE - Latham Maxwell Wilson, 85, of 168 Latham Wilson Rd., died April 22, 1992 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was son of the late Maxwell and Sally Lattimore Wilson and was husband of Emma Gold Wilson who survives. He was a retired farmer and member of Kadesh United Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Bobby Gold Wilson of Shelby, and Charles Boyd Wilson and Jim Wilson, both of Lawndale; one daughter, Ruth Wilson Yarbro of Shelby; five grandchildren, John Yarbro Jr., Jill Henson and Julie Rikard, all of Kings Mountain, and Mitzi Gales and Terry Wilson, both of Lawndale; and four great-grand- children. The funeral will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Kadesh United Methodist Church. Rev. C.W. Sartin officiated. Ridge St., died April 24,1992 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of York County, SC., he was the son of the late Walker Dunlap Sr. and Mary Jane Mobley Dunlap. He was a former employee - of Superior Stone. He was a mem- ber of Vestibule AME Zion Church, where he was a member of the steward's board, the men's -choir, and an honorary life member of the missionary society. When she isn't working, Blanton relaxes with her children: daughter Liza is a certified public accoun- tant in Charlotte for Arthur Andersen Company; son David Blanton is a freshman at N.C. State University in Raleigh. Hallie loves the arts and would like to be active in Little Theatre again. Years ago, she played the role of "Cinderella" in a local theatre performance and never forgot the exhilarating expe- rience of being before the lights. Decorating and cooking are also her hobbies. Survivors include two sons, Benny Millwood of Kings Mountain and Danny Joe Millwood of Shelby; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Gladden of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiated. Burial - was in the church cemetery., DANIEL WILLIAMS WHITE PINE, TN - Daniel Harold Williams, 71, of 1513 Butler St., died April 27, 1992 at Humana Hospital, Morristown. He was a former resident of Vass and a former city council member. A retired employee of Pfizer Corporation, he was a member of the Southern Pines Masonic Lodge 484 AF&AM and a member of White Pine First United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Alda C. Williams; one son, Daniel H. Williams Jr. of Southern Pines; two granddaughters, Kimberly A. Williams of Southern Pines and Tracey J. Williams of West Point, NY; one, stepson, William R. Sells of Statesville; five stepgrandchil- Kelly -~-Daughtery of Clairmont, Leslie Brown, Tracy Sells, Jaden Sells, and Roddy Sells, all of Statesville; and one sister, Elizabeth Garner of Robbins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Williams of White Pine. The funeral was conducted Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Farrar's White Pine Chapel with Rev. Mark McKnight officiating. Masonic ser- vices were held after the services.
