A 1990 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, the bride-elect is a nursing student at Gardner-Webb College in Boiling Springs. She is em- ployed by Gaston Memorial Home Health. Champion is a 1988 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and a 1992 graduate of Gardner-Webb College with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. The couple plans a June 27 wedding. Lewis-McMahan Dixon Woman’ S Club District President Linda Moore Dixon's goal as a homemaker, teacher and clubwom- an is to serve God in every area of her life. The busy Kings Mountain wom- tan wears a number of hats and zeredits her husband Don for help- ing her maintain the balance she needs. Recently Mrs. Dixon was elect- ed District Four President of the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs. She will head up nine clubs in Cleveland, Gaston, and Rutherford Counties, preside at three district-wide meetings, and" encourage participation in state and federation projects. Installed at the 90th state convention in Durham, she credits the rapport she has with the local club and said that Kings Mountain Woman's Club is making a difference in the local community. As local president for two years, she has led six departments of ac- tivities, helped plan a service pro- ject annually, and has been the driving force behind a beautifica- tion effort at the clubhouse on East Mountain Street. Her crafts projects have been consistent winners for years in dis- trict and state projects. After 24 years in Home Economics education in the schools, she made a career change after earning her ED.S degree from Appalachian State University. She calls her new job as assistant prin- cipal in elementary education “a breath of fresh air," Because she loves little children, Beams wed in Gaffney Angela Ruth Patterson and Robert Michael Beam were united in marriage on April 3 in Gaffney, SC. Probate Judge W. R. Douglas officiated. The bride is the daughter of Larry and Kay Patterson of Grover. A graduate of Kings Mountain High School, she is employed by Reliance Electric in Kings Mountain. She is the granddaugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Patterson of Shelby and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bess of Grover. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Milton Beam of Fallston and Janice Wright Beam of Kings Mountain. A grad- uate of Bessemer City High School, he is cmployed by Reliance Electric. Wright -of Kings Mountain and the late Ervin Wright. te ath od rth orate LINDA DIXON she says that learning the elemen- tary curriculum is a rewarding challenge and has been a growing experience. "My school, North Brook Elementary in Gastonia, is an excellent school, staffed by true professionals from the custodian to the principal,” she says. Dixon said the career change was difficult because she had to leave the vocational education de- partment at Kings Mountain High School and "wonderful co-work- rs.” Her first classroom experi- ence was at her alma mater Bethware School in 1964 where she taught a eighth grade self-con- tained class for a year after gradu- ating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also holds a Master's degree from UNC- G, Class of 1984. From Home Economics at Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia and from 1969-81 she taught home eco- nomics, science and middle grades occupational explorations at Bessemer City Junior High School. She joined the KMHS faculty in 1981 and served for nine years as Department Chairman of Home Economics. She joined North Brook Elementary School at Vale in the Lincoln. County School sys- tem in 1990. Her teaching didn't stop in the classroom when she became an ad- ministrator. She continues to teach an Adult II¥ couples class at First Baptist Church. An avid reader, she enjoys membership in the Study Club and maintains member- ship in numerous Home Economics honor societies and the American Vocational Association. One of her fun roles as a teacher came in 1968 when she launched and starred in a 30-minute home show "Around the House with Linda" on Cablevision of Gastonia. As a club woman she encour- ages other women to set goals, or- ganize their opportunities, and help meet the needs of others.
