Water aerobics are held at the Natatorium (Kings Mountain High School). Youth and Adult Tennis Lessons - The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department announces a new. program of group Tennis Instruction for beginner and advanced beginners. Classes will be held at the tennis courts at Deal Street Park, be- hind the Community Center. The adult and youth lessons will fun for two (2) weeks. Instructor for the class is Bill Naylor. The Parks and Recreation Department will handle all registra- tions at the Community Center. Fees will vary depending on the class, but generally will range from $18.00 for the youth to $23.00 for the adult class- es. Oil Painting Class (Bob Ross Painting Class) - The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for the Oil Painting Class which will be held the third Saturday of each month. The fee for each Saturday class is $30.00. If you do not have your own supplies the in- structor will have them available to buy or rent. After each class will be JoAnn Robinson. Swimming Lessons - The Parks and Recreation Department will offer sum- mer swim lessons for 12 months old - 12 years old. The sessions are as fol- lows: June 15-26, July 6-17 and July 27-August 7. Flower Arranging Classes - The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department announces a Beginner Flower Arranging Class beginning on Monday, July 13. Each class will con- sist of two (2) hours of instruction. Date of classes: July 13 6:00 pm-8:00 pm July 20 6:00 pm-8:00 pm July 27 6:00 pm-8:00 pm Instructor for the class will be Tim Hord of Kings Mountain Florist. Registration fee is $15.00. That's what Kings Mountain Tennis Association wants tennis lovers to do at a big tournament July 10-12 at Kings Mountain High School Courts. Entry fees are $5 for KMTA members and $10 for non-mem- bers for each event. The events will include men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles and the tournament will be played on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. Bryan Jones ranked 20th Kings Mountain's Bryan Jones is No. 20 in the final Volvo Tennis Collegiate Rankings for the 1991- 92 season, which were recently re- leased by the Intercollegiate Tennis © Coaches Association. Jones, who just completed his senior year at North Carolina, had a high ranking of No. 19 this sea- son. North Carolina is No. 8 in the fi- nal team rankings, while Jones is unranked in the doubles rankings. He helped the Tar Heels to their best final ITCA ranking in history. ERALD-Thursday, June 18, 1992 Post 155 comeback beats Gastonia; 5-2 record good for first place tie Playing in the revamped Central Division of Area Four, Kings Mountain Post 155's Legion base- ball team moved to 5-2 and into a tie fopr first place with Bessemer City Tuesday night with a 12-6 comeback win at home over Gastonia. Coach Bruce Clark's team, 4-12 a year ago, has already surpassed that record in total wins and Clark has been happy with his team's play this season. "I've been very, very pleased," he said Wednesday morning as his team prepared to host Cherryville Post 100 that night to begin a busy schedule: "I like the new setup. It's a lot more competitive and the teams are a lot closer to our home base. The crowds should get better because of the rivalries." Friday, Post 155 beat Bessemer City 6-4. On Saturday, Kings Mountain invaded Shelby and cap- tured a 9-4 decision. On Monday, they dropped a 6-4 home game to Belmonts Auten-Stowe Post 144. Kings Mountain's bats came alive against Gastonia after the home team had fallen behind 5-0 in the top of the first inning. But Post 155 battled back, scoring five runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Kings Mountain took the lead in Cowgirls The Kings Mountain Cowgirls lost their first game of the season this week, falling to Bessemer City Tigers 12-8 Monday night. LaChelle McLeymore was the winning pitcher for the Tigers and Keisha Wells took the loss. the sixth inning, 7-6, and added to its margin. Clark moved Mike Smith into the leadoff spot and Smith was on base five times. He was 2 for 2 and garnered three walks. Rick Marr and Todd Ware also collected a pair of hits to help spark the 13-hit attack. David C. Jenkins was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Tommy Payne. After beating Bessemer City Friday, Kings Mountain took a 9-4 victory Saturday at Shelby as Rick Marr went the distance, striking out six. Post 155 struck for three runs in the top of the second and never trailed. Shelby did tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. It stayed that way until the top of the seventh when Kings Mountain scored three runs, then got a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Marr struck out six in beating Shelby's Steve Gold, who pitched until the ninth. David Jenkins had two doubles in four at-bats and Caja Ormand slammed a two-run triple for Post 155. Each team had seven hits, with Shelby committing seven er- TOTS. In the 6-4 loss to Belmont, Kings Mountain outhit the visitors Monday 7-6, but Randy Brown's bases-loaded single in the sixth fall to Tigers, 12-8 Tuesday night the Cowgirls bombed Boiling Springs 31-2, im- proving their record to 6-1. Kings Mountain rallied off starter Steve Mullis in the bottom of the sixth, getting a two-run sin- gle from David R. Jenkins to cut the margin to 6-4. Payne had a RBI double. Jenkins had two singles and three RBI. ~ Brent Jones pitched three and a third innings in relief for Post 144 and got a save. Rob Wingo was the starter and losing pitcher for Post 155. Post 155 faces a bevy of games until the end of the first round. Thursday, they travel to Stanley for a doubleheader beginning at 6:30 p.m. Stanley beat Belmont Tuesday 11-6 for its first win in four games. The Kings Mountain at Belmont game rained out last Thursday will be played as part of a. doubleheader at Raider Field June 26. The game with Cherryville which was rained out Sunday will also be part of a doubleheader Monday, June 29 in Cherryville beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Kings Mountain hosts Stanley at Lancaster Field.
