PE a - Page 10A-THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday, July 23, 1992 Beta Epsilon meets in Kings Mountain The Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held its annu- al planning meeting on July 9 at the Holiday Inn in Kings Mountain. Welcoming members to the 1992-93 planning meeting was President Hilda Leonard of Kings Mountain. Leonard also discussed the chapter's yearly goals. Connie Phifer, Literacy commit- ‘ tee chairman, discussed the plans McGinnis on Dean's List at Lenoir-Rhyne Steven Gregory McGinnis of Kings Mountain was recently named to the Dean's List for the 1992 spring semester at Lenoir- Rhyne College in Hickory. McGinnis was one of 171 stu- dents named to the honor roll. According to Lenoir-Rhyne regis- Local students on Dean's List at Gardner-Webb Four students from Kings Mountain and two from Grover are listed on the honor roll and Dean's list for the spring semester at Gardner-Webb College. Michael Black in Who's Who Michael Dale Black, KMHS senior, has been nominated to "Who's Who Among American High School Students." He runs track and cross country, plays basketball, and is active in the Beta Club and Lettermen's Club. He is a member of First Baptist Church. The honor is reserved for only five percent of the nation's high school students. Black is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Beam of Kings Mountain. Robert Smith III to study abroad Robert L. Smith, III was selected as one of 10 students to study Italian architecture this summer in the Tuscany region of Italy. In addition to architectural field trips, the students are remodeling an existing theater in the village of Bucine. Smith graduated from UNC- Chapel Hill in 1986 and is current- ly a fourth-year architectural stu- dent at UNC-Charlotte. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Smith Jr. of Kings Mountain. CC Head Start seeks students Cleveland County Head Start is currently seeking four-year-old children for the Head Start pro- gram. Must be four years old by Oct. 16. School Supply opens in Shelby Shelby's first school supply Education Station has been opened at 111 W. Graham Street by Suzanne Bolin Grayson, formerly of Kings Mountain. Grayson said grand opening will be held in August. The hours of operation are noon to 6 p.m. on Monday throuth Thursday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday. Customers can use catalogs to place orders for the upcoming school year, she said Grayson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bolin of Kings Mountain. Chen on Dean's List Paul Chen of Kings Mountain made the 1992 spring quarter Dean's List at George Tech in Atlanta by achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average. Hollifield on Dean's List Aubrey Dale Hollifield, of 807 Hillside Drive, senior at Wake Forest University, was listed on the Dean's list for the spring semester. He achieved a 3.0 or. higher grade point average. Caveny on Dean's List . Heather Ruth Caveny, of 401 Horseshoe Lane, is listed on the Dean's list for the spring semester at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington after earning a GPA of 3.5 or better with no grade less than B. Host families needed Foreign high school students will be arriving soon in the Kings Mountain area for homestay pro- grams. The sponsoring organiza- tion is looking for more local host families. The Beta Epsilon Chapter which includes members from Bessemer City, Cherryville, Kings Mountain and Lincolnton will hold their walk at Kings Mountain High School on Sept. 26.
